Google Maps is gaining a neat feature ahead of the Christmas and New Year holidays – product listings from stores. This means you can search for products from select stores directly from the Google Maps search bar. The products will be updated with inventory listings so you know where and when to pick them up. Search results will display product listings for items like clothing and electronics similar to what you might find on Google Shopping. Google Maps is also gaining an updated travel planner, which will help you avoid traffic and delays in transit systems. In...
Google has updated Maps and Waze with refined UI elements to help you find your destination more easily and to be more aware of traffic and other hazards on the road. First up, Google Maps now has a big, easy to tap reporting icon – tap it and select the relevant report. Other drivers passing through the same place can confirm that the hazard is still there with a single tap. Note that these reports are coming both from Google Maps and from Waze users (and you can see which app was used to submit the report, if you’re curious). The improved incident report UI is rolling out globally...
Google is finally rolling out support for speedometer readings and speed limits in Maps on iOS, and these also work through CarPlay. The move comes a whopping five years after the same functionality was added to Android, bafflingly. Still, it's finally here on iOS too. This being a Google app, it might however take a few weeks for the rollout to be completed, so don't fret if you don't see this just yet. The speedometer will use km/h or mph depending on your region. You can turn it on in Settings > Navigation > Driving options. The speed limit feature will change the colors on the...
Google Maps is getting new features to help you on your summer travels. It's now easier to discover helpful lists from top sites and the Maps community, starting in "select cities" in the US and Canada. When you search for one of those cities in Maps, you can swipe up to see curated lists of recommendations "from people who know the city well", Google says. There will also be lists from "sites you love" - such as The Infatuation's curated restaurants, Lonely Planet's guides, The New York Times' 36 Hours itineraries, and OpenTable's guides to the best new eateries. There will also be...
The most important upgrade on the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 over the Z Flip4 is the larger cover display – moving up from the tiny 1.9” (512 x 260px) to 3.4” (720 x 748px) will enable Samsung to run apps on the cover display, not just basic widgets. The company has allegedly worked with Google to include apps like Google Maps. Right now it’s not clear how much of Maps’ functionality will be available with the phone closed – it could be the whole app (like on the Moto Razr40 Ultra) or it could be a trimmed down version. Cover display size comparison: Galaxy Z Flip4 • Z...
