The Paris Rhône SP005 True 4K Projector appears to be a promising offering, combining professional styling and potent projection capabilities at a reasonable price. Initial impressions are favourable, with decent build quality that, although plastic, is well-finished and designed.

The initial setup is straightforward, offering configurations for table, ceiling, rear ceiling, or rear projection, all manageable via an easy-to-use interface. Upon startup, the auto-focus and keystone correction engage, adapting to the projection area. While the focus is precise, with manual adjustment available, keystone correction often needs slight manual tweaking. Using a dedicated projection screen improves accuracy, but this projector ideally requires a central placement without any off-centre correction.

The Android TV integration initially seems well-conceived, and the quality of the projection, even at 600 ANSI Lumens, is adequate for a darkened room. However, issues arise with installed apps like iPlayer, Disney+, and Netflix. The integration becomes less user-friendly due to awkward cursor-style navigation and general instability.

Incorporating an HDMI Fire Stick or a similar device can alleviate these issues, transforming the projector experience. The projection quality is commendable, albeit slightly less intense than expected for a device of its size. While fan noise is noticeable, the powerful speakers effectively mask it.

We've tested out the best 4K projectors and the best business projectors, and overall, this model offers decent 4K resolution and sound, but it's advisable to consider an alternative to the built-in Android TV.

Considering that this is a 4K projector, that price isn't at all bad and well below what you would usually expect to pay for a projector of this type.

At the budget end of the market, the projector lacks cutting-edge technology, chips, or processors to boast about. However, offering 4K resolution at this price point is impressive. Its 600 ANSI Lumens fall short of many standard 4K projectors, and with Android TV 9.0 instead of the more up-to-date 11, it's clear that compromises were made to meet a budget.

Taking these limitations into account, along with the inclusion of two very respectable 25W built-in speakers, the price and features begin to seem more balanced. However, this does represent a compromise.

The Magnesium Alloy casing of the SP005 gives the projector an instantly premium feel. Its size and weight are reassuring, and if there were any doubts about the projector's prestige, the fabric-covered front around the large projection lens stylishly dispels them.

However, the Paris Rhône SP005 is at the budget end of the market. While the design and features impress upon unboxing, the specifications start to justify the low price tag.

That said, with a native 3840x2160 resolution, this projector firmly falls into the 4K category. There are few projectors currently available with this feature set that can match what's on offer. The 4K projection is further enhanced by HDR 10+ support and 600 ANSI lumens of brightness, making it more suitable for evening or curtain-closed environments for optimal viewing.

Even with 600 lumens of brightness, it's sufficient to project a 200" diagonal display comfortably. The integrated innovative blue light reduction technology ensures the projected images are clear and crisp.

One of the standout features, alongside the 4K resolution, is the dual 12W speakers. Paris Rhône emphasizes these and the audio quality of the projector, contributing to an immersive cinematic experience.

For ease of use, the projector includes automatic focus, keystone correction, and intelligent obstacle avoidance, allowing quick adaptation to the environment. Manual adjustments are also easily accessible for those who prefer them.

Preinstalled with Android TV 9.0, the projector offers access to a vast selection of apps, from Netflix to Amazon Prime. Ultra-fast WiFi-6 and Bluetooth 5.0 support for controller and Bluetooth connections, along with an array of ports including HDMI 2.1 and USB-C, expand its usability.

The design of the SP005 is stylish and looks the same. The features, though somewhat limited in bulb brightness, are acceptable for the price, especially for nighttime viewing.

Compared to the slick and stylish exterior, the actual use of the projector offers a contrast. The initial setup is straightforward, with an easy Wi-Fi network connection and quick overall navigation.

The bulb's brightness, compared to more expensive projectors, is instantly apparent, necessitating drawn curtains for a decent picture. Once light levels are sufficient, the quality of the 4K projection is good, despite some noticeable softening towards the edges of the projection area. It's important to position the projector squarely on the wall rather than at an angle.

Upon switching on, the auto-focus and keystone correction kick in. Generally, the focus is accurate, providing sharp images quickly, though with noticeable whirring sounds. Keystone correction was hit-and-miss, with manual adjustment of the four corner points often yielding the best results.

The object avoidance feature also had mixed success, leading to a preference for manual adjustment. A surprising aspect was the need to repeat the focus and projection setup each time the projector was turned on, though this could be turned off in the settings.

Installing apps is easy, but the implementation of Android 9.0 TV limits direct interaction with apps like Netflix to cursor navigation only, inhibiting browsing capability. Using an external device like a Firestick offers a more user-friendly experience.

HDMI connection simplifies usage significantly. Connecting an iPhone via USB-C works well for visuals but omits audio, which can be connected via Bluetooth 5.0 or, more effectively, through a traditional AUX 3.5mm cable. The Apple Multi Connector offers a better option for delivering both visuals and audio.

Overall, the performance of the SP005 doesn't fully meet expectations. The professional appearance isn't matched by usability, although the audio and projection quality are good. Noise levels are higher compared to other projectors like Sony, Epson, and XGIMI, but once a movie starts, it becomes less noticeable.

Considering its price as a straightforward 4K projector with numerous connection options, it offers great value. The attempt to enhance it with Android TV falls short, needing a firmware fix for improvement. However, using an external TV device via HDMI works well, and the 25W speakers are impressive, though a high-quality speaker set, ideally from our list of the best Dolby Atmos Speakers, is recommended.

Paris Rhone SP005: Verdict

Throughout the test period, this projector's price fluctuated from the full $699 to a more reasonable $499. The features and specifications seem to justify the higher price tag. However, the execution of Android TV is subpar, and numerous issues with Bluetooth connectivity and software glitches in the apps don't quite support the full smart projector price.

However, if you overlook the Android TV and other smart features, what remains is a very competent 4K projector with an excellent set of speakers. Connect your preferred media source, and you have a budget-friendly, well-built 4K projector.

If you're in the market for a smart 4K projector, investing a bit more for a more up-to-date and powerful model is advisable. But for occasional use with external media sources and a limited budget, this projector is an excellent choice.

How did I test

When it comes to projectors, at least five variables come into play to determine the viewing experience out of the box:

I employ a professional projection screen in lecture theatres and studios for photo and video workshops. At home, I utilize a wall painted specifically for evening viewing.

For my video viewing experience, I delved into a backlog of Edgar Wright movies and the excellent series "Lockwood & Co.", mixing action with special effects, challenging the projector's lamp and electronics. I also showcased the 2020 LG OLED video, a robust test of the projector's handling of black areas. The testing environments included:

The Munbyn IRT09J Rugged Windows tablet couldn't be anything other than tough, with its large screen surrounded by a rubberised plastic edge and all buttons and ports either sealed or sealable to ensure a water resistant design. Even the small fan is been water resistant although this doesn't mean it can be submerged under water.

Installed with Windows 11 Pro, the tablet is fast and responsive, thriving on the work-focused platform. The large 12.2" screen is surprisingly easy to navigate. At the same time, the touchscreen isn't as sensitive as some tablets, which actually works in its favour for the intended market.

Scrolling through spreadsheets and typing up reports is smooth and fluid, with a little configuration for the pop-up on-screen keyboard required initially to enable an easy workflow. The screen is incredibly well-balanced, and colour and contrast can all be adjusted through the Windows OS.

When it comes to web browsing, the tablet is once again fast, connecting and rendering web pages quickly. Likewise, a quick check and catch-up with YouTube and Netflix showed that video playback is well-handled. Focusing back on work, a quick Google Meet and Teams call to check in went well, with the tablet picking up audio and the small speakers pushing out just enough sound to make it workable.

We've hand-tested many of the best rugged tablets, and while the machine might not have the processing power to play games more involved than Solitaire, this is, after all, a work-focused tablet rather than one for recreational purposes. To that end, the tablet is tough, surviving being soaked in water and dropped from a height, so it should stand up to working life.

The touchscreen interface of Windows 11 Pro is quite good, with the 12.2-inch screen providing sufficient space for easy navigation and selection. The screen's responsiveness is adequate for professional use, even if not as sensitive as a smartphone or consumer-level tablet.

The included pen offers a faster, more precise way to navigate the touch screen, which is particularly beneficial for those with larger hands.

Typing documents and working with Excel sheets is smooth, although the automatic pop-up of the keyboard can occasionally fail. However, a shortcut to the keyboard on the taskbar solves this issue, and the pop-up keyboard, covering about half the screen, has decent-sized buttons that respond well to typing.

Handling the tablet is facilitated by four connection points for the fabric hand grip, allowing easy operation while walking or on location. There are also various accessories for vehicle mounting and carrying, including back straps, shoulder straps, and a docking station.

Other notable handling features include the fingerprint access pad for easy login and five quick access buttons on the side, including a scanning button that, with the right software, enables barcode scanning using the front or rear cameras.

The graphics and processing speeds were moderate, which essentially means that most modern games are unplayable, with single-digit frame rates at best.

When it comes to office duties, the processor, graphics, SSD, and RAM align with the ideal requirements and operate smoothly, with a PC Mark score of 2232. While this score is on the low side, it's in line with a desktop PC from 2016 and more than sufficient for most warehouse and field administration work.

On the performance front, where this tablet excels is with its durability and additional features. Being able to swap out the battery is a major feature; other tablets might allow for fast charging, but when you're on-site, what you need is instant power. Likewise, the inclusion of hand grip mounts for single-handed operation, a quick scan button, and front and rear cameras all add up to a valuable feature set for industry use.

Then there's the robustness, drop-proofing, and water resistance, which, while they don't add to the machine's speed, do enhance its overall performance as a work tool.

The water resistance is a great feature, and through the test survived a moderated soaking in rain and at the end of a hose spray, however, the IP65 rating means that while this device is water resistant it is not waterproof so cannot be submerged under water. 

When wet the touch screen stops functioning due to the capacitative design, however, once wiped dry the functionality returns. 

After a particularly heavy dousing of water, there was some sign of water ingress when removing the battery. So while the tablet can withstand more than most you should still be careful when using it in particularly heavy rain.

The IP65 rating means that the tablet is water resistant rather than waterproof, so submerging the tablet into water will break it. However, subjected to heavy rain and damp conditions the tablet should be fine. In our test the water was spayed at the tablet for 10 minutes from a hose, while the wet meant that the screen wasn't usable due to the capacitive technology, after it was wiped clean the tablet worked fine.

The AGM H6 Rugged Mobile Phone follows the usual tough design yet still manages to keep the overall look and feel of the smartphone slim and stylish. The rubberized plastic surround provides a decent grip, and the few buttons placed around the edge are a decent size and easy enough to find and use.

Adding to the durability of this phone is the IP68 rating, which means it can be submerged underwater, making it a great solution for anyone needing a phone that can keep up with life outdoors. It's also built to MIL-STD-810H standards, ensuring that if you drop it under most normal conditions, the phone won't be affected.

As you look over the phone, you'll also notice that rubber flaps cover all ports, and the back of the phone is textured to give a better overall grip to the device in any condition.

In speed tests, the phone didn't hold up so well against most other recent releases, with relatively low Geekbench and 3D Mark scores. However, when just running Google apps for business, that power is more than sufficient.

The design of the AGM H6 rugged mobile phone is a departure from traditional tough smartphones, featuring a slimline, lightweight form factor and a large floating-style screen akin to mainstream smartphones. However, once you pick it up, you can feel the solid build and slightly rubberized texture of the surround, along with detailing on the back that ensures a firm grip in all conditions.

The big selling points of this phone are toughness and simplicity, and everything about the design reinforces this. As you look over the phone, you'll see that all ports, including the USB Type-C and 3.5mm headphone jack, are covered with rubber bungs to ensure no water gets into the electronics if the phone gets wet or is dropped into water.

The power button on the right side of the phone gives a precise click as you switch the device on and also doubles as a fingerprint scanner. Above this is the volume control, again with a precise click. On the opposite side is a bright yellow button that can be customized in your settings to give quick access to an app of your choice. The rest of the exterior is very simple, with the large 6.56-inch screen covering the front, the rubberized surround adding protection while keeping the phone slimline and stylish, and the build being IP68 rated, meaning it's waterproof and MIL-STD-810H certified, ensuring you can drop it without worry.

In line with the physical design elements of the phone, the software is equally streamlined. Unlike every other phone I've opened recently, the AGM H6 is sparse. On the home screen, there's only the basic Google suite of apps along with the settings icon. Scrolling to the second screen shows the camera, but really, AGM has kept the phone lightweight in terms of apps and demands on the phone's resources.

An interesting addition to the design is the three-card slot that allows you to insert two SIM cards and a TF Card up to 512GB in capacity, adding to the standard 256GB of internal storage. This means you can have both your work and personal number on the same phone, and the additional storage is there if you need to capture images, store work files, and more.

The design of the AGM H6 is aimed at those less fussed with the latest apps, games, and smartphone gimmicks and more focused on using a phone for making calls, checking and updating documents while knowing that, come rain or shine, the phone will continue working.

The phone, considering its rugged label, is remarkably thin at just 10.75 mm and weighs in at 240g, not what you would usually expect from a rugged smartphone.

With IP68/IP69K water and dust resistance, plus MIL-STD-810H shock resistance, it's built to survive drops from up to 1.8 meters, so it will suit anyone who spends a lot of time outdoors for work or leisure.

At the heart of the AGM H6 is an Octa-Core T606 processor that enables the phone to run Android 13. The processor, backed by 16 GB of RAM (8 GB physical + 8 GB virtual), ensures there's plenty of memory for opening multiple apps at once. In comparison, the 256 GB storage, expandable up to 512 GB with an optional TF Card, provides ample space for apps, photos, and files.

Those three card slots are a standout feature of the AGM H6 – two for nano SIMs and one for a TF card, negating the need for constant swapping. The inclusion of NFC, fingerprint and face recognition, alongside GPS, Beidou, and Galileo, rounds off an impressive list of advanced features.

While not specifically aimed at photography, the camera sports a 50 MP primary camera alongside a 2 MP macro lens and an 8 MP front camera for video calls. The camera's 50MP sensor uses the Samsung JN1+GC02M1, which is a good middle-of-the-road imaging sensor.

Ensuring a decent battery life, the phone includes a 4900 mAh battery, supporting 18W fast charging. This capacity enables up to 24 hours of talk time, over 22 hours of music, and a decent amount of web browsing and video playback. However, these last two activities will drain the battery faster.

As this is a rugged smartphone, it only seems fair to start the test off with some rugged tests. Using the phone for making calls, alongside the pre-installed apps, WhatsApp, and a few other chosen selections, the H6 was fast and responsive, with the large touchscreen responding well in most conditions.

As the screen became wet, the usual issue arose with the responsiveness of the screen, as the moisture confuses the capacitive technology. However, a quick wipe away of the moisture returns the responsiveness.

Listening to music or watching videos through the phone handles all with ease, although the built-in speaker is a little lacking in audio quality. Plugging in some headphones or linking to a speaker, everything sounded fine.

For everyday use, there's little to fault with the H6. The only time it did struggle was when Adobe Lightroom and a few other video editing apps, such as Quik, were installed. While the apps themselves run absolutely fine, the smoothness of the experience isn't the same as you would get with more powerful phones. However, it could still do the work, which was impressive.

When it came to the benchmark tests, the results showed the limitations of the device, with middle to lower scores across the board. However, this phone isn't aimed at the higher end of the market; it's a simple, rugged phone designed to be used by people who need something simple and tough for tasks like making calls, reading emails, and updating documents. For this, the power is absolutely spot on. Below are the results of the benchmark tests.

The overall design of the Targus Dual Host USB-C KVM 4K is decidedly desktop, adopting the all-too-familiar long bar style common in switchers and hubs. This design is practical as it sits neatly on a monitor stand, allowing quick and easy access to the ports for both monitors and computers.

At the back of the unit is the main power socket, connecting to a standard AC power adapter and wall socket. There are also two USB Type-C ports for the machines, each offering a full 100W of power simultaneously, which is a notable feature.

Another feature of these ports is that the supplied USB cables have locking screw threads, similar to traditional cables, allowing them to be screwed into and locked into the back of the KVM. This design prevents accidental disconnections. The supplied cables are high-quality examples that support both power delivery and data transfer.

Next to the two USB Type-C ports are an HDMI and two DisplayPorts, supporting up to three 4K displays, followed by a Gigabit Ethernet port.

On the side is a T-Bar lock slot for security, with a power button on top that illuminates a purple LED when on. On the front right, there's a USB Type-C and two USB Type-A ports, then 3.5mm audio in and out, and two more Type-A ports. These two ports are labeled for the keyboard and mouse and should be used for this purpose as they enable auto-switching. Beside these is the switch that allows you to cycle through monitor configuration modes.

Functionality-wise, it's all there: a standard design but well laid out. Regarding build quality, two rubber pads on the base prevent slipping off the monitor stand, and the top has a textured finish for an ergonomic look of quality. The plastic itself feels and looks a bit cheap but is balanced by the metal-effect base.

Even with the wire reduction that a decent KVM or hub enables, there's no getting around the fact that a little cable management is initially needed when setting up and placing the Targus Dual Host USB-C KVM 4K.

The slim block design, with two rubber pads on the base, holds the unit nicely on the base of the BenQ monitor. Due to space, I usually use a dual 27-inch monitor setup, but to test the full capability of the KVM, I've added a smaller Dell monitor into the mix. The two BenQ monitors are connected through DisplayPort, while the smaller monitor uses the HDMI socket.

With the monitors connected, there's little to report; all is easy, and with a bit of cable tidying, it all looks good. The next step is connecting the two computers, in this case, a MacBook Pro M1 16-inch and MacBook Air M2, both using the two USB Type-C ports on the back of the KVM. Instantly, the power symbol illuminates to show that everything is working and power is being delivered to the laptops.

Next, the keyboard and mouse are connected to the icon-labeled ports on the front of the KVM. With the three displays currently showing the output from the first laptop, the keyboard prompt has appeared, and I can click through the setup process in the usual way.

Then, a single press of the switch button on the front of the KVM switches to the screen of the second laptop. I can confirm the selection of the keyboard and mouse on the first screen while the second and third screens still display from the first monitor. Then, I can drag the mouse from the first monitor and machine to the second and then to the third.

The machine to which the mouse and keyboard are attached automatically switches with the movement of the mouse. The switch is quick but noticeable. However, the move from the second to the third monitor, both displaying from the same machine, is swift.

With another click of the KVM switch, the first two monitors show the display from the second machine, while the last shows the first machine. Click again, and all monitors show the second computer's display – it's all very quick and smooth. The only issue is that the button works on a carousel rotation, so you need to cycle through the modes to reach the desired one.

Likewise, if you want to use an Ethernet connection or have a NAS, this can be attached to the Ethernet port on the back. However, you can't connect a hard drive and switch from the machine it's mounted on to the other without the hard drive disconnecting. It would be handy if there were a way to either enable a single drive to stay connected to a single machine or, ideally, be networked across both machines.

Still, what this KVM enables does make things extremely simple and quick.

Priced at $499, this is a significant investment for any computer accessory, especially one that's neither a computer nor a hard drive. However, if you work with the best business monitors or the best business laptops, you'll appreciate the necessity of a KVM like this.

While there are features that could further enhance its usability, this KVM offers functionality that simplifies the process of using two machines. The auto-switching feature is one of the best workflow enhancements I have encountered.

It may be expensive, but for those using multiple machines, this device becomes indispensable. The speed of the switch is commendable, but it's the auto-switching and integration of machines and monitors that set the Targus Dual Host USB-C KVM 4K apart from other KVMs on the market. For this reason, in a professional environment, it justifies its price tag.

How did I test

KVM switches range from simple to feature-packed, and the Targus Dual Host USB-C KVM 4K falls in the middle. It has enough features to satisfy most users, though it may lack the high-end build quality that advanced users expect. Nonetheless, in the studio and office, this KVM delivered what was required and more. During the test, these were a few of the aspects I focused on:

I work between a college and university centre and a photography studio, often switching between Mac and PC systems. While I mostly stick to one machine, there are times when I need to use both Mac and PC systems.

In this test, I first used the KVM with two MacBooks: a smaller MacBook Air M2 and a larger 16-inch M1. The larger machine is primarily used at home for more demanding tasks, while the impressively powerful Air is suitable for Photoshop work, writing, and general admin.

The sleek design of this laptop immediately catches the eye with its expansive 15.6" 3.2K resolution monitor, boasting a 120Hz refresh rate and a full 100% sRGB colour gamut.

The overall feel exudes quality, although the silver finish is high-grade plastic, not the metal found in more premium models. Nevertheless, the build quality feels far from cheap, save for the slightly loose left trackpad click, which slightly detracts from the overall solid construction.

For the on-the-go professional, the connectivity options are impressive. There is a range of USB Type-C ports, including one USB 4.0, along with a full-sized HDMI 2.0 port, a MicroSD card reader, and a standard 3.5mm headphone jack. Ideal, then, if you've been on the hunt for the best business laptops with this sort of port selection. 

Our test model came with Windows 11 pre-installed, and the hardware specifications suggest this laptop will be serviceable for several years before an upgrade becomes necessary.

Internally, it houses a 12th generation Intel Core i7-1260P processor with 12 cores and 16 threads, peaking at 4.7GHz with Turbo Boost. The integrated Intel Iris Xe Graphics, with 96 compute units and a top frequency of 1400 MHz, utilizes 6.29 GB of device memory, facilitating smooth media playback and capable handling of graphically demanding tasks.

Weighing in at 1.35kg and measuring 243mm x 350mm x 13.5mm, the laptop's dimensions and weight make it an ideal solution for day-to-day tasks on the go. While it offers ample processing power for multimedia tasks and gaming, the system falls just short of running the best 3D modeling software or the best video editing software. While editing video was fine, we struggled to achieve seamless 4K video editing in applications like DaVinci Resolve. For all other intents and purposes, this laptop hits the mark as a potent solution.

Upon first glance at the Tecno MegaBook S1, you'll notice a resemblance in colour, design, and finish to any of the best MacBook Pro laptops. However, the similarity is brief; unlike the MacBook Pro, this 15.6" laptop can be easily lifted with one hand.

The overall finish and quality feel of the laptop are excellent, courtesy of the high-grade Magnesium Alloy body. It may give a plastic impression compared to metal, but this contributes to its lightweight nature. Despite this and its slim design, it feels robust and well-constructed.

Its slim profile and light build underscore its design for mobility. With a 12th gen Intel i7, 16GB RAM, and an SSD (albeit only 256GB), it boasts impressive power.

Opening the laptop reveals a large 15.6" 3.2K Super Vision Mega Screen with a 16:10 aspect ratio and a 120Hz refresh rate. The display is bright at 450 nits, fully adjustable, offers DC Dimming, and comes with built-in eye protection.

Connectivity can be a challenge with lightweight laptops, and at 13.5mm thick, there's no room for a full-sized Ethernet port. However, it compensates with a generous array of USB Type-C and A ports, a full-sized HDMI, and a MicroSD card slot.

For conference calls and presentations on the go, the laptop is well-equipped with a 1080P FHD (2MP) AI camera, a beauty AI algorithm, and privacy options. The 6-speaker system, DTS X: Ultra, and Dual-Mics with AI ENC ensure clear audio.

An added security benefit is the Biometrics: 2-in-1 fingerprint power button, a feature that's fast becoming standard and should be considered essential for laptops.

The battery life is noteworthy at an estimated 10 hours, and Tecno includes an ultra-fast 65W GaN Super Fast Charger, which can fully recharge the 70Wh battery at 65W in just over an hour.

This laptop is designed as a step up from the mainstream in terms of power and function. It's not quite a high-end desktop replacement, but it's close. Therefore, when put under load, such as editing 4K video, efficient cooling is vital.

Tecno's Ice Storm Cooling system, with VC heat dissipation and a dual fan design, is engineered to activate under load, preventing throttling with processor-intensive applications.

Overall, the specifications, build, and quality of this laptop make it a standout choice. While it may take some getting used to the power in such a light package, its size and weight make it an excellent option for those needing a capable, lightweight laptop.

The Chiclet keyboard design offers sufficient key travel for fast typing and is spill-resistant. While there could have been room for a numeric pad, and the function keys are frustratingly small, the keys' positive action compensates for these minor drawbacks.

The Tecno MegaBook S1 is tailored for those seeking portable computing power. Extensive testing through benchmarking software, various applications, and some gaming, reveals the capabilities of this slim, lightweight laptop.

The design, style, size, and weight present an intriguing proposition, placing it within the premium laptop bracket. Its lightweight build, paired with a large high-resolution monitor and excellent audio, makes it a versatile option for office work, entertainment, and gaming. But it also has enough power for creative pursuits if you've been looking for the best laptop for photo editing, best laptop for graphic design, or even the best video editing laptop at this price-point. 

The laptop impresses with its power and speed, and while it may not top the power specification charts, it handles tasks better than expected, thanks in part to the lightning-fast SSD. However, a capacity of more than 256GB would likely enhance performance further.

There are drawbacks, notably the fans, which become audibly intrusive under heavy processor loads. The trackpad's touch gestures and features are practical, yet the left and right clicks feel subpar—sticky and cheap, detracting from the otherwise premium feel.

Performance-wise, the laptop excels where it counts: editing high-resolution 45MP RAW images in Lightroom and Photoshop was seamless, as was standard 4K video editing in DaVinci Resolve. Editing RAW 4K video proved challenging, with the 256GB SSD capacity quickly becoming a constraint. Yet, for on-the-go video editing, this laptop, combined with a portable SSD connected to the USB 4.0 port, should suffice.

As a gaming laptop, it holds its own. While it can't replicate desktop-level smoothness, games like Red Dead Redemption 2 are playable at 1080p with minimal lag, providing a satisfying experience.

When discussing high-end premium laptops, we typically anticipate some weight and bulk. However, the Tecno MegaBook S1 breaks the mold with its slimline and lightweight design, which can initially feel disconcerting. The magnesium alloy shell, for instance, might be mistaken for high-quality plastic mimicking metal, but it's genuinely metal, albeit surprisingly light. The trackpad further accentuates this perception, as it has a somewhat cheap-feeling click that lacks the precision and authority expected from a premium laptop.

Despite these factors, the laptop performs admirably in key areas. It excels outside the office and can handle many processor-intensive tasks—just be prepared for the noticeable fan noise. Another crucial point for creative professionals is the SSD size; opting for more than the base 256GB is advisable, as it's insufficient and can significantly limit your capabilities.

Overall, the Tecno MegaBook S1 offers solid performance, but certain build quality issues prevent it from being classified as a truly exceptional machine.
