PowerA Fusion Pro 3 wired controller review: great features, lacking design
3:57 pm | April 28, 2023

Author: admin | Category: Computers Gadgets | Comments: Off

The PowerA Fusion Pro 3 is a solid option if you’re looking for a wired alternative to the official Xbox Wireless Controller. Manufactured under the Designed for Xbox seal of quality, you can expect a competent – if somewhat unremarkable – controller from PowerA here.

Where the Fusion Pro 3 shines is with its extra features that you won’t find on Microsoft’s Xbox Series X|S pack-in pad. Four fully programmable rear buttons are an excellent addition to the controller, and can be mapped easily using the Program button located on the back. The 3-way trigger locks, mic volume switch, swappable thumbsticks and faceplate all also work as intended and are extremely welcome additions.

What lets the PowerA Fusion Pro 3 down, relative to the best Xbox controllers in its price range, is overall build quality and feel. For all its pro-adjacent features, the gamepad has cut some corners in terms of design. That’s especially apparent with the cheap-feeling triggers and shoulder buttons. Overall, the Fusion Pro 3 is still worth looking at if you’re after a mid-range wired controller with some awesome trimmings.

PowerA Fusion Pro 3: price and availability

The PowerA Fusion Pro 3 is available to buy now for $79.99 / £79.99. In the US, you can buy directly from PowerA’s official store page, or from Amazon. In the UK, it’s stocked by retailers including Game, Argos and Sports Direct. No Australian pricing or release date has been offered at this time, but it’s sure to follow in the coming weeks.

PowerA Fusion Pro 3: design

The PowerA Fusion Pro 3 sets a good impression out of the box. It comes nestled in its own carrying case; which is always a fantastic extra when it comes to pads on the pricier side. Pop open the case and find the controller itself, its 10ft braided cable, and two swappable thumbsticks. One tall concave and the other a tall convex stick. It would’ve been nice to have two of each, but that likely would’ve jacked the controller’s price up even more.

Overall build quality is a slight cut above cheaper pads from the same manufacturer, but doesn’t quite have the solid feel of the Xbox Wireless Controller; a shame given the Fusion Pro 3 is pricier than Microsoft’s pad.

There’s a cheap, lightweight feel to the Fusion Pro 3 that can be hard to ignore if you’re used to some of the best Xbox controllers. That extends to the rather flimsy feeling of the triggers and shoulder buttons, too. Thankfully, those hair trigger locks help to give your fingers some extra purchase, so I’d recommend switching them to the halfway setting. By default, the triggers do feel slightly loose.

But that’s where the bad news ends when it comes to design. PowerA has done a great job with the sticks and face buttons, both feeling responsive and tactile. The same can be said of the D-pad; it’s not the best in the world, but I appreciate the raised ends of each direction that allows your thumb to rest easily in the center.

Another nice touch is the removable face plate. If you find the default plain black to be a bit bland, you’re easily able to click it out of place and put in another PowerA branded plate, many of which boast officially licensed designs.

PowerA Fusion Pro 3: performance

Where the PowerA Fusion Pro 3 really shines is with its ancillary features. Its four mappable rear buttons work incredibly well and have a nice tactile feel. You can assign inputs to them easily by just holding the Program button on the rear of the pad. Sadly, though, you won’t be able to set multiple profiles, so expect to do a lot of button swapping if you’re hopping between games.

Hair trigger locks can be a mixed bag when it comes to third-party controllers, as we saw with the HyperX Clutch Gladiate where they were often unresponsive. However, they work excellently on the Fusion Pro 3 regardless of platform, be it Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One or PC. Though as mentioned earlier, I liked keeping the trigger locks on the middle setting to apply a bit more sturdiness to them. However, the tightest setting is great for quick trigger fingers in games like Halo Infinite and Fortnite.

Another nice touch is the mic volume switch, found between the D-pad and right analog stick. Flicking this in either direction will raise or lower the mic volume if you have a headset connected. Pressing it down in the center will also mute the mic. It’s a great on-board feature that I wish more controllers had, skirting the need to open your Xbox’s settings separately.

As for overall performance, the PowerA Fusion Pro 3 provides an adequate experience when its extra features aren’t taken into account. It’s a very solid – if somewhat basic – controller that’s a respectable choice if you’re looking for a spare pad or a strictly wired alternative.

Should I buy the PowerA Fusion Pro 3?

Buy it if...

You like Pro-adjacent features
The PowerA Fusion Pro 3 has you covered with mappable rear buttons, swappable sticks, dedicated mic volume switch and more.

You like customization
The swappable faceplate on the Fusion Pro 3 is a great extra touch, perfect for those who like to trick out their pads on a budget.

You play shooters online
The Fusion Pro 3’s trigger locks are excellent for first and third-person shooters.

Don't buy it if...

You’re on a tight budget
The Fusion Pro 3 is a touch on the expensive side, bordering on a mid-range price.

You’re after a wireless controller
The Fusion Pro 3 is strictly wired, though the cable is long enough to support rooms and setups of most sizes.

You want a premium feel
The controller feels a little cheap and flimsy for its price range, though the buttons, sticks and D-pad do improve things here.

A couple of days ago, Poco announced it would unveil the Poco F5 and Poco F5 Pro on May 9. Today, the company revealed the Pro model would pack a flat WQHD+ screen with a punch hole in the center for the selfie camera. The image shared by Poco shows the F5 Pro has a power button on the right-side frame joined by the volume rocker, with the USB-C port at the bottom flanked by a SIM card slot, microphone, and speaker. There are no antenna lines on the phone's frame, meaning it's not metal. Poco doesn't show us the rear side of the F5 Pro, but it did tease the vanilla F5 in a new color,...

Audio-Technica AT2020USB-X review – Simple for stellar streaming
1:01 pm |

Author: admin | Category: Computers Gadgets | Tags: | Comments: Off

Chances are you’ve come across the name Audio-Technica if you’re at all familiar with audio equipment. The brand has been making some of the best headphones for decades. This latest USB microphone, the AT2020USB-X, builds on the foundations laid by the previous entries in the AT2020 models to deliver on the promise of one of the best microphones for streaming and one of the best USB microphones around.

If you want to get involved in game streaming, then the Audio-Technica AT2020USB-X provides an excellent high-quality starting point for online creation. You’re not getting the full range of XLR dynamics here, but for its size and price, there’s little to fault with this punchy little performer.

Price and Availability

The Audio-Technica AT2020USB-X was released in August and is currently available for $149 / £116 / AU$209 in the US, the UK, and Australia, respectively. As a point of comparison, that’s roughly $20 / £20 / AU$30, more expensive than what you can currently find a Blue Yeti for. It’s not terribly expensive as far as enthusiast-level streaming microphones go, but it doesn’t undercut some of the more established names either.

Design and Features

There’s nothing extraordinary about the design of the Audio-Technica AT2020USB-X upon first inspection. While it’s pleasing to the eye, with its all-metal construction and black color scheme, things are kept simple and straightforward in its visual language until you plug it in. Once powered up, you’ll notice the bright blue LED from behind the grill, indicating that the microphone is on and ready for audio delivery.

On the front of the controls is a touch-sensitive panel which mutes the mic completely silently, which means that broadcasts and recordings won’t suffer from any interference. The blue light shifts to a dark red, an obvious indicator that no sound will be transmitted. As audio shorthand does, it’s a great touch that helps separate the Audio-Technica AT2020USB-X from its contemporaries. It’s powered by USB-C but connects to your computer, laptop, or console through a more standardized USB-A.

On the technical side of things, there’s a 24-Bit/96 kHz sampling rate and 20-20,000 Hz frequency response, which aligns with many modern USB microphones as opposed to the older 16-Bit/48 kHz, which were common a few years ago. The dedicated 3.5mm audio jack and volume scroll specifically dedicated to microphone monitoring when broadcasting is nice to have. However, there’s no on-board gain control, as you’ll find on the Rode X XDM-100. It’s unlikely to be a massive hindrance, but something that deserves mentioning all the same.

Performance

AudioTechnica AT2020USB-X

Using the Audio-Technica AT2020USB-X as my daily microphone for work has been well-above average. Whether I was taking part in video conferencing meetings with my colleagues or conducting interviews, the sonic reproduction of this model has been genuinely surprising. At first, the lack of a gain dial left me feeling at an impasse, but I quickly became accustomed to this by testing how far I needed to be away from the pickup itself.

Audio-Technica AT2020USB-X can pick up my voice with a level of clarity that I’ve not seen from USB-A microphones in this price range. It sounds significantly better fresh out of the box than the tried-and-true Blue Yeti and Blue Snowball that I’ve had knocking around my house for years. Things are noticeably stripped-back with the Audio-Technica AT2020USB-X as there are no options for different pickup patterns for capturing a single voice instead of several, as you’ll find with Blue’s offerings. That means this is made for side-address, is all about putting you front and center, and does a faithful job of making you sound the part, too.

The small footprint of the stand and the compact size of the microphone’s body is something that I can really appreciate as someone who frequently flexes between office and remote working. The Audio-Technica AT2020USB-X is small enough to fit comfortably in my bag and is built sturdy to the point where I’m not worrying about it during commutes. If you have a cramped gaming or office desk, then you won’t have to worry about the stand taking up that much room. Just be warned that it could sit slightly lower than where your mouth may align. It’s nothing that had a significant impact on me, as the Cardioid condenser has a decent range to it, but it’s something to bear in mind.

Should you buy the Audio-Technica AT2020USB-X microphone?

Buy it if…

You’re after a compact but capable USB microphone for streaming

While it may be no-frills in design and approach, the AT2020USB-X does everything it sets out to do with a powerful condenser pickup making for high-quality, distinctive audio playback.

You have limited space in your setup

The AT2020USB-X won’t take up much room at all with its considered footprint and small build size. This means it’s perfect as a replacement for the otherwise unwieldy boom arm stands and thicker USB microphones on the market.

Don’t buy it if…

You want to record in noisier environments

The lack of a gain dial and the sensitive nature of the AT2020USB-X means that it will not be the best at battling through a room that’s got some ambience to it. You’re better off finding a microphone with some passive noise reduction, such as the Rode X XDM-100.

Monday Projects Review: Pros & Cons, Features, Ratings, Pricing and more
11:31 am |

Author: admin | Category: Computers Gadgets | Comments: Off

Monday.com is a cloud-based business management and collaboration platform. It markets itself as a “work operating system” that empowers individuals and businesses to manage their workflow.

Monday Projects falls under the broader Monday.com platform. It’s a cloud-based project management tool that enables team leaders to centralize and plan their projects and monitor the progress as every stakeholder plays their part.

Monday Projects has extensive integration with other features on the Monday.com platform. It also has an extensive suite of third-party integration that provide extra functionality, e.g., Slack for instant communication.

Monday Projects: Plans and pricing

Monday Projects has no free plan, which puts it at a disadvantage. To use the software, you must pick from one out of four plans; Basic, Standard, Pro, and Enterprise.

The Basic plan costs $12 per user per month. With this plan, you can manage unlimited tasks and projects and monitor them from a single dashboard. You also get access to the iOS and Android mobile apps.

The Standard plan costs $14.5 per user per month. It includes everything in the Basic plan plus extra features like third-party integrations and automation. This plan also lets you monitor the progress in Calendar, Timeline, and Gantt views, compared to the Basic plan which only supports the Kanban view.

The Pro plan costs $25 per user per month. This gives you access to everything in the Standard plan plus extra features such as team resource allocation, private boards & work docs, and the ability to set and view dependencies for work projects.

The Enterprise plan has no standard pricing, so you’ll need to contact Monday.com’s sales team for a quote. The unique feature of this plan is that it is very customizable. You can deploy large-scale integrations and automation. You also get advanced reporting and analytics that are not available on the other plans. Likewise, you can control who can access what data at every organizational level.

Note that the typical plans support a maximum of 40 users under a single organization. Anything above that number, you’ll need to get in touch with Monday.com’s sales team to negotiate a deal.

There’s no free plan for Monday Projects, but you can take advantage of the 14-day free trial period to test the platform’s features before making your final purchase decision. You don’t need to provide credit card details to sign up for this free trial, unlike with many other platforms.

Payment is available via all major credit cards like Mastercard, Visa, and Discover.

Monday Projects: Features

Project dashboards

As a manager, after creating tasks and assigning them to people working under you, tracking their progress is very important. The good thing is that Monday.com lets you do that with interactive dashboards. These visually-appealing dashboards make it easy for task assignees to report on their progress and for managers to provide feedback where needed.

The insights you get from the dashboards will enable you to spot project bottlenecks and take quick action before they cause a problem.

Gantt Chart

A Gantt chart is a unique type of project management chart where horizontal lines indicate the amount of work done in certain time periods. It was named after Henry Gantt, a 19th-Century American mechanical engineer.

Monday Projects enable you to create Gantt charts in a few steps. It uses a drag-and-drop interface, so just need to drag and drop modules into their desired positions. Hovering your mouse over any task will show you its progress status.

You can also create dependencies for tasks on the Gantt chart, which means that a specific task can not start until a preceding task is completed.

Gantt charts make it easier to delegate resources for a project and monitor its progress.

Workload view

Monday Projects offers a widget called Workload view, which is very useful for resource management. This widget shows all your team members and the work you've assigned to them; it lets you balance the workload and avoid allocating too much work to one person.

Integrations

No platform can give you all the features you want, so you may need third-party integration to provide extra functionality. For example, you can link Monday Projects with Zoom for audio and video conferencing, Box for file management and storage, and Salesforce for customer relationship management.

Monday Projects: Interface and use

You can access Monday Projects either via a web browser or by downloading the app on your iOS or Android device. A mobile app enables you to work and manage projects on the go, especially during times when it’s inconvenient to work with a PC.

But, the Monday.com interface can be confusing to a new user. It’ll take some time to get used to the platform and there’s a steep learning curve if you want to utilize most of its features.

Monday Projects: Support

Monday.com offers direct support via email and telephone, and the support team is available 24/7. You can also access the Help Center to explore articles and user guides concerning all aspects of the platform. Likewise, there’s a tutorial video library that’ll help you get familiar with Monday Projects.

Monday Projects: The competition

Wrike and Asana are two major competitors to Monday Projects. These platforms are easier to use compared to Monday.com. They also have free plans, unlike Monday Projects which only provides a free trial.

Monday Projects: Final Verdict

Monday Projects is an ideal tool for managing projects in professionals settings. It makes it easy to set tasks, assign them, and keep track of their progress. The drawbacks are the steep learning curve and being relatively expensive.
