Author: admin | Category: Mobile phones news | Comments: Off

Apple announced it's investing €1 billion in a new silicon design center after spending just as much on its new R&D center in Munich two years ago. In fact, the new facility is treated as an expansion of the existing one since it will be located just across the street. Inside Apple's current research facility Apple wants to bring 2,000 of its engineers in one place, so they can work more efficiently with state-of-the-art equipment. Efforts will go toward developing custom silicon design, power management chips and future wireless technologies. The main goal is to improve Apple's...

Garmin Forerunner 965 and 265 finally come with AMOLED screens
6:40 pm |

Author: admin | Category: Mobile phones news | Tags: , | Comments: Off

Garmin introduced the new Forerunner 965 and Forerunner 265 smartwatches with one major improvement - the screens are now AMOLED, moving away from the transflective memory-in-pixel (MIP) solution. According to the official numbers, the 900-series flagship could live 23 days on a single charge, while the 200-series should offer up to 15 days. The Garmin Forerunner 965 is targeted toward elite athletes. The new type of display is just one of the changes; other features include a new titanium bezel, a slightly thinner body and a 1.4” (35.4 mm) screen. Standalone GPS, detailed heart rate...

Secretlab Skins review – Gives your gaming chair a whole new look
6:27 pm |

Author: admin | Category: Computers Gadgets | Comments: Off

Billed as the “world’s first premium gaming sleeves”, Secretlab Skins are an unconventional accessory for gaming chairs. You don’t need to rush out and buy a new chair if you’re after a switch-up in your style; you need to throw a cover on, and it’s good as new.

Secretlab is behind the best gaming chair on the market, the Secretlab Titan Evo 2022, which the Secretlab Skins are exclusively for. If you’ve had one of these chairs for a while now and don’t want to throw down a potential $549 / £444 / AU$759 for a new one, this is more than a gimmick. It’s a viable way to ensure longevity.

Price and Availability

The Secretlab Skins are currently available directly from Secretlab itself in territories such as the US, the UK, Australia, and other regions, such as Asia. There are seven different colors to choose from in three different sizes; small, regular, and large, all universally priced at $169 / £169 / AU$269.

Depending on where you live, you will also have access to Special Edition versions as well. In the US and Australia, you can choose from franchises such as Batman, Game of Thrones, Cyberpunk 2077, and The Witcher. These are not currently available in the UK, though this will likely change as the support continues throughout the following months.

Design and Features

My Secretlab Skins review unit came in the Soda Purple SoftWeave color. The box includes two pieces: throwovers for the backrest and the seat part of the Secretlab Titan Evo 2022 chair. To the eye, the purple of the Secretlab Skins exactly matches what my Soda Purple version of the chair looked like, so in terms of faithfulness to the original upholstery, you’re getting the real deal here.

The Secretlab Skins are incredibly well made and feel identical to the native texture of the chairs. It’s a high-quality product, as you should expect for a sleeve that costs this much. My current Secretlab Titan Evo 2022 is the Plush Pink model, and it contrasts well again with the deeper, more intense accents of the Soda Purple glove.

The Secretlab Skins for the backrest and seat feature zips that allow them to slip over the existing chair. The brand claims that you can do this in three minutes, and that’s roughly how long it took for me to slide the pieces over and zip them up. There’s a decent amount of stretch and pull to the SoftWeave material, so I didn’t have to fight for long to get each side installed onto my Secretlab Titan Evo 2022.

Before installing the Secretlab Skins, I initially worried about the risk of added bulk from the lightweight frame, but the sleeves are indistinguishable from the original product. It took a few extra minutes to smooth out the edges and ensure that everything was flush against the backrest and seat that was there before. In a couple of minutes, my Plush Pink became a Soda Purple.

There’s a lot of promise for the future of Secretlab Skins as they open the door for you to change up the look of your chair. As someone who has reviewed many gaming chairs over the years, I am excited I can now choose a completely different look and feel for my go-to without worrying about disassembling or replacing it. Time will tell just how much support this cosmetic accessory will have from the brand, but ultimately I’m impressed they look and feel this good.

Should I buy the Secretlab Skins?

Buy if...

You want to change the look and feel of your Secretlab chair

Secretlab Skins are available in many different colors and variants, so you can go from a PU leather to a SoftWeave, or a radically different SoftWeave design without splashing out on a whole new chair.

You want to keep your Secretlab chair cleaner for longer

Secretlab Skins are machine washable, so you can keep the upholstery in excellent condition easier than relying purely on surface wipes.

Don't buy if...

You have an older Secretlab chair or another brand

The Secretlab Skins are only compatible with the Titan Evo series, so they will not fit if you’ve currently got an older Classics model such as the Omega line.

Bissell SpinWave R5 review: a solid two-in-one option
5:59 pm |

Author: admin | Category: Computers Gadgets | Tags: | Comments: Off

The Bissell SpinWave R5 does a lot of things well. It vacuums up debris and mops hard floors exactly as one would hope. It offers plenty of control through its app including disengaging the mop functionality for certain zones and setting schedules for regular cleanings. And, it has plenty of battery life to get the job done.

So, if you’re in the market for one of the best robot vacuums, you could certainly do worse. As Bissell is a known name in the game having been around since the 1880s, the company knows a thing or two about cleaning. And, the SpinWave R5 is proof that that the company knows what it’s doing.

That said, it has some quirks that keep it from besting the competition. Of course, some of the best two-in-one models go for twice the price as the R5 so it deserves a little slack. It won’t have self-emptying functionality, for instance.

Also, like most robot vacuums, it’s good enough to keep the daily build-up of dirt and debris at bay but is not quite at the level to replace regular deep cleaning. It can certainly handle most surfaces but struggles with thicker rugs, door frames, and other obstacles making this tough for scheduled cleanings when you’re not home. For that, you’ll also want one of the best vacuum cleaners on hand.

Yet, if you have a lot of space that needs to be cleaned, especially with pets around, and want to keep from having to break out the handheld vacuum every other day, the Bissell SpinWave R5 will do a great job.

Bissell SpinWave R5 review price & availability

  •  List price: $549.99 / about £455.19 /AU$799
  •  Available in the US and Australia
  •  Not available in the UK

First, those in the UK won’t be able to purchase the Bissell SpinWave R5 without an enterprising family member of a vast smuggling operation in either the US or Australia (or are willing to pay high shipping costs).  Actually, that's not quite true. If you're keen on getting your hands on the Bissell SpinWave R5 and you're in the UK, you don't actually have to set up a smuggling operation. You can get your hands on it through third party resellers on Amazon, though at an inflated price of £636.39.

For the rest of us, the Bissell SpinWave R5 offers decent value for its 2-in-1 functionality with a standard price tag of $549.99 / about £455.19 /AU$799. Not only is it available on the Bissell site but is carried at most major resellers such as Amazon and Best Buy in the US, and Appliances Online in Australia. Since it goes for the same price everywhere, you can pick your favorite retailer and not have to worry about price matching.

It’s far from the most expensive as you can find plenty that will cost double, such as the highly rated iRobot Roomba Combo J7 Plus. And, if you go much lower in price range, like the Eufy RoboVac 11S which goes for $219.99 / £189.99 / AU$229, you miss out on that mop functionality as well as app control. A better comparison might be the Eufy RoboVac G30 Hybrid, which at $369.99 / £369.99 is almost $200 / £100 cheaper. Of course, its app can’t save the layout of your home like the Bissell, an important feature if you want to schedule cleaning a certain part of your home when you’re not around.

The specs of our Bissell SpinWave R5 review unit

  •  Recommended uses: Dry, Wet
  •  Battery life: 110 minutes (wet), 180 minutes (dry)
  •  Battery type: Rechargeable
  •  Accessories: Dry dustbin, dry/wet dustbin, sample size cleaning solution
  •  Weight: 6.83lbs (3.10kg)

Bissell SpinWave R5 review design

  •  Clean, minimalist look
  •  Comes with two dustbins, one of which is for mopping
  •  Charging station is small

The Bissell SpinWave R5 doesn’t break any trends aesthetically, though it does come in white with mint green accents as opposed to the usual black that most robot vacuums come with. It has a bumper that covers its front half to safely navigate with, as well as a protrusion on top that I can only assume is for its 360-degree LiDAR system. Besides a power switch on the side, the vacuum itself only has two buttons situated on top of the unit, one to start or pause cleaning and one to dock.

Like most robot vacuums, the R5 has a side brush and brush roll to vacuum up debris. The mop function is not equipped on the body, instead attached to one of the two dustbins it comes with. The bin with the mopping functionality has two mop pads attached as well as a reservoir to pour in the water / cleaning solution mixture while the other skips all that when you just want to do basic vacuuming.

Bissell SpinWave R5 with dustbins

The charging station is composed of two pieces: a base for the R5 to sit on when not in use and the charging bay itself. There’s a little cable management here as you can orient the direction of the power cable that plugs in underneath for a cleaner look. Since there’s no self-emptying functionality built-in, the charging station is relatively small. If it weren’t for the base, this part of the R5’s setup would be fairly discreet.

Bissell SpinWave R5 review performance

  •  Not as set-and-forget as one might assume
  •  Vacuums and mops very well
  • Surprisingly quiet operation

As a robot vacuum, the Bissell SpinWave R5 is not going to get all the corners or do the kind of on-the-fly judgment on what to clean or go around that a person with a vacuum can. It will get stuck on thick rugs or bundles of cables as well as things with thin parts like a cat toy. And, that all makes running the vacuum on a schedule tough if you have pets that tend to bring out and leave their toys around or if you use said thick carpet in your bathroom. This means that there’s a certain amount of prep required to get the most out of this robot vacuum. I found the R5 stuck on both the rug as well as cables more than once. It even got stuck on the raised door frame for my apartment’s sliding door.

While that’s a bit disappointing as that could result in you coming home to a stuck vacuum and a partially dirty floor, that’s one of those things that robot vacuum manufacturers presume to have solved but haven’t really. That said, it does a great job cleaning otherwise. Obviously, larger debris won’t be picked up but it does a great job of picking up dust, tracked kitty litter and those finer particles that pet owners tend to battle to keep their spaces clean.

It also picks up hair pretty well. Not only is there a cat roaming around but I have a roommate with long hair. Yet, after running the SpinWave R5, the floors are pristine though some hair does inevitably get stuck around the brush roll (though this hasn't affected performance).

The mop function is particularly well-implemented as it not only vacuums in the front and mops in the back (that way, loose debris is picked up before the mopping begins) but the water / cleaning solution mixture used dries quickly, not to mention can be used on multiple surfaces and is safe around pets.

And, while the vacuum does struggle with thicker rugs, it can handle more typical carpet and rug surfaces. It will also stop its mop function as it traverses such surfaces and then continue once it’s back on a hard surface.

A quick note regarding spot cleaning. Spot cleaning is one of the most important functions since sometimes you just want to clean up a mess and not the whole house. There’s no way to access spot cleaning on the app and it’s not clear how to use spot cleaning when looking at the R5. However, a quick look in the manual will show that you just have to press the play button on the vacuum twice to use.

No matter how you run the Bissell SpinWave R5, it is surprisingly quiet as it maxes out at just 60dB when in use. While certainly not silent, it's not distracting in the same way as a typical vacuum and is much quieter than other robot vacuums I've used, particularly budget and mid-priced Roomba models.

  • Performance: 4/5

Bissell SpinWave R5 review app

  •  Pairing the app and vacuum may take more than one attempt
  •  Creating zones takes a little extra effort
  •  Has lots of functionality like scheduling and seeing required maintenance

The SpinWave R5’s app, Bissell Connect, comes with a bit of a learning curve but does unlock quite a bit of functionality. Installing and pairing with the vacuum is straightforward as you can scan a QR code underneath the unit. I did have to go scan and go through the process a few times for the app to recognize and connect with the vacuum.

Once connected, using the app is fairly intuitive as there are tabs for different functions along the top of the app. The landing page and first tab is where most of the action is. You’ll see your space mapped out, even on opening the app for the first time as well as  battery life, the mode it’s in, among other things. At the bottom are a number of buttons to control it such as starting it, docking it, and targeting specific zones.

The learning curve for the app revolves around those targeted zones. When you press the button to select zones, a new page appears with a map of your space where you can create zones. Unfortunately, you’re limited to drawing and rotating boxes so it can take a little finessing to set up zones, especially if you have an unorthodox floor plan. Luckily, once you’ve drawn your zones, you can determine whether they get vacuumed, vacuumed and mopped or are off limits.

cleaning zones and modes in the Bissell app

Setting targeted cleaning zones is a learning curve (Image credit: Future)

While I won’t spend much time on the other tabs as they’re straight forward and much easier to navigate, the app includes a tab for scheduling cleanings, one to see your cleaning history, as well as a maintenance tab that shows the various parts of the vacuum and their level of functionality. For instance, my side brush is currently at 90%. If it gets too low, there’s a link right below the percentage that will take me to the Bissell page where I can order a replacement part.

  • App: 4.5/5

Bissell SpinWave R5 battery life

  •  More than enough battery life
  •  Surprisingly efficient on higher cleaning modes
  •  Automatically returns to charging base

As far as battery life goes, the Bissell SpinWave R5 has a purported 110 minutes of vacuuming and mopping time or 180 minutes of just vacuuming time (when on the low setting). While I have tested this vacuum quite a bit, it has managed to vacuum and mop the 800 square feet available to it and return to its docking station long before its max run-time.

Even after 45 minutes of vacuuming and mopping, its charge went down maybe 30%. Even running it on its medium setting didn’t do much to drain the battery life faster. In essence, not only does the SpinWave R5 validate Bissell’s battery life claims, it can exceed them if just a little bit. When running it on low for half an hour, its battery loses barely any charge. On top of that, this robot vacuum will return to the charging base on its own when finished so you won’t have to worry about charging it back up between use.

Bissell SpinWave R5 review: also consider

If you know you want a hybrid robot vacuum but aren't convinced that the Bissell is for you, here are a couple more top options to consider.

How I tested the Bissell SpinWave R5

  • Used both dry and wet modes regularly
  • Tested all features of the app including setting different cleaning zones

To test the Bissell SpinWave R5, I not only used it for general cleanings in both dry and wet modes but I used it manually as well as via the app over a two week period to get a good sense of what it’s capable of. I watched it work its magic and sometimes lack thereof on different surfaces and obstacles including hardwood floors, rugs of various thickness, and door frames as well as cat toys and cables. When testing with the app, I made sure to use it for general cleaning as well as using it for only certain areas as well as making certain areas off limits.

Layla Memory Foam Pillow review
5:00 pm |

Author: admin | Category: Computers Gadgets | Comments: Off

The Layla Memory Foam Pillow is one of the best pillows that we’ve tested. It’s plush, with a hexagon-style quilted cover, and includes open cell memory foam and poly fiber fill. The adjustable fill makes it easy to find the right loft to meet your needs and the ability to modify the pillow makes it a great choice for back, side, and stomach sleepers. The pillow is also breathable and cool to prevent night sweats. In addition, cleaning the pillow’s cover is a breeze since it can be removed and tossed into the washing machine and dryer. The pillow itself can be laundered as well – but will take several cycles to dry. See how the Layla Memory Foam Pillow matches up to the rest of the best pillows on the market.

And, if you’re looking for a way to really boost your comfort level, take a look at our guide to this year's best mattresses for all budgets.

Layla Memory Foam Pillow review in brief

In any event, the pillow is a high-quality product, designed to withstand use and washing for years to come. The outer pillow cover can be easily washed and dried. But for those who prefer to wash the actual pillow, you can do that as well. Just be advised that it will take more than one drying cycle.

Pillows are meant to be slept on, but there’s something about the Layla Memory Foam Pillow that made us want to hug it. And over two weeks of testing, we definitely slept in positions that included embracing it. The come-hither hexagon-quilt cover is soft and luxurious to sleep on. That’s due in part to how the pillow handles the filling.

Layla Memory Foam Pillow at a glance

Type: Memory foam pillow
Best suited to: Back, side, and stomach sleepers
Dimensions: Queen: 18” L x 28” W; King: 18” L x 34” W
Trial period: 120 days
Warranty: 5 years

Sometimes, a pillow with memory foam fill can feel rather lumpy. However, the Layla Memory Foam Pillow has two zippered covers. There’s the outer, hexagonal cover (that I just described); however, after unzipping this cover, there’s also another polyester backed gel infused memory foam cover (or inner sleeve) that contains the actual fill. It’s the combination of these two covers that makes the pillow feel sumptuous and opulent – and that’s why we couldn’t resist hugging it. And fortunately, we never got hot while embracing the pillow since it’s breathable, and designed to stay cool.

Because the fill is adjustable, the pillow is versatile enough to be used by back, side, and stomach sleepers. The adjustability factor also makes this pair of pillows a good choice for people who share a bed, since each person can adjust their pillow accordingly. However, for a pillow with adjustable fill, we were expecting it to be packed to the brim – and it wasn’t. As a result, the high loft isn’t as high as an actual “high loft” pillow.

Layla Memory Foam Pillow review: price and deals

The Layla Memory Foam Pillow is one of two pillows sold by the company. The other is the wildly popular Layla Kapok Pillow, which is on our list of the best bed pillows of 2023, and retails for $109 for a queen. At $89/$69 for a queen, the Layla Memory Foam Pillow is a more economical choice – although it’s still considered a luxury item. Both pillows have adjustable fill, and both include shredded memory foam – although the Kapok comes with a bag of extra fill. And, as its name suggests, the Kapok pillow also contains natural Kapok fibers (that have been harvested from the seeds of Kapok trees and are designed to create a down-like feeling).

The Coop Home Goods Adjustable Memory Foam Pillow is a less expensive choice at $72, and it also includes fill that can be added or removed. That pillow also has a breathable outer cover and an inner liner, and this makes it a direct competitor to the Layla Kapok Pillow. However,  that pillow also includes extra fill for a fluffier pillow.

At $165, the Saatva Memory Foam Pillow is another memory foam option. It’s much more expensive (over twice as much when the Layla Memory Foam Pillow is on sale). However, Saatva uses graphite-infused memory foam that’s designed to pull heat away from your body to keep you cool, and while the Layla pillow keeps you cool, it doesn’t use this type of advanced cooling technology.

Layla Memory Foam Pillow: was $89 now from $69 at Layla
The Layla Memory Foam Pillow is available on Amazon for $89/Queen pillow, $104/King pillow. When not on sale, it’s available for the same prices on the Layla website; however, Layla currently has the pillows on sale for $69/Queen pillow, $84/King pillow.View Deal

Layla Memory Foam Pillow review: design and materials

  • Breathable memory foam
  • Cover zips off to launder
  • Adjustable fill

The foam in the Layla Memory Foam Pillow includes 70% shredded memory foam and 30% polyester fiber. The cover has a luxurious Hex pattern, and a 100% polyester liner – which is made of polyester backed gel infused memory foam.

These materials combine to provide a supportive feel that is also incredibly soft to the touch. Since the fill is adjustable, it’s easy to “tweak” it for just the right loft. This makes the pillow supportive and comfortable for back, side, and stomach users. Both back and side sleepers may prefer to remove some of the fill for a lower loft. Side sleepers may prefer to keep all of the fill in the pillow. However, keep in mind that this is not really a high-lift pillow – it’s more of a mid-loft pillow – so if you’re looking for a true high loft pillow, this one may not provide as much height as you seek.

The breathable memory foam provides temperature regulation, avoiding the tendency to wake up hot and sweaty.

The pillow is also designed to be easy to clean, since the cover can be removed and tossed into the washing machine. Or the entire pillow can be laundered as well. But keep in mind that it will take more than one cycle in the dryer to completely dry the pillow.

Layla Memory Foam Pillow review: performance

  • Plush cover is soft and inviting
  • Adjustable foam provides the right level of support
  • Breathable material regulates temperature

For over two weeks, we slept on a pair of Layla Memory Foam pillows to see how they fared in performance, testing for set up, comfort, support, and temperature regulation. We also slept on side, back, and stomach positions to see if the performance was the same. Here’s how we got on...

Setup

Layla Memory Foam Pillows in their boxes

4.5 out of 5 stars

The pair of Layla Memory Foam Pillows arrived in colorful, Layla-branded boxes. On one hand, we applaud the company for not using more cardboard than necessary to ship the pillows. But on the other hand, we felt rather “lucky” that they arrived safely since prominently-branded boxes are easier to identify (and therefore steal) during the shipping and delivery process.

After taking the pillows out of the boxes, we found each one was securely wrapped in plastic. After cutting the plastic open, the pillows appeared to start expanding. However, “appeared” is the operative word here.  That’s because when we checked back 30 minutes, an hour, two hours – even three hours later, the pillows hadn’t made much progress. We ended up putting them in the dryer for 10 minutes, and the pillows came out nice and fluffy.

Fortunately, we did not experience any off-gassing smells.

Temperature regulation

5 out of 5 stars

Regarding temperature regulation, the Layla Memory Foam Pillow did not trap body heat, which made it quite comfortable to sleep on. Some pillows are actually cool to the touch. We wouldn’t go as far as to say that these pillows were “cool” to the touch. However, they definitely weren’t warm at any time. We tested them during a cold spell, so our tester also had a weighted blanket and luxe faux fur throw on the bed.

However, even when sleeping under the extra bedding, we never woke up hot and sweaty with the pillow. We attribute this to the mixture of open cell memory foam and breathable polyester fibers – in fact, Layla states that the cover is woven from the same polyester fabric used in exercise apparel because of its breathable traits.

Firmness and support

4 out of 5 stars

The Layla Memory Foam Pillow provided a cushiony yet supportive experience in every position. When our tester slept on her side (which was most of the time) she left all of the fill inside of the pillow. However, when she slept on her back and stomach, she removed some of the foam (to mimic the level of support that back and stomach sleepers would desire). She never woke up with neck or back pain.

However, it should be noted that although our tester was quite comfortable on her side, we know that some side sleepers prefer a really high loft. If you fall in that category, you may prefer a pillow with more fill. For example, the Layla Kapok Pillow provides an extra bag of fill, so you can make the pillow really high.

Also, after sleeping on the pillow, we had to fluff it each morning (or toss it into the dryer on the “Warm Up” or “Air Fluff” setting).

Layla Memory Foam Pillow review: user reviews

Reviews on the Layla Memory Foam Pillow were not plentiful (perhaps because the Layla Kapok Pillow is so popular).  There were only 8 ratings on Amazon, with an average rating of 3.4. (60% gave it 5 stars, and 40% gave it 1 star, and there were no in-between ratings- so this seems to be a pillow that you either love or hate). Only one of the eight people left an actual review – and gave the pillow one star – but stated that the pillow was a very good quality and thought it would be great for other people, but since they had severe neck issues and numerous surgeries, it did not work for them.

On the Layla site, there were 245 reviews – and they were overwhelmingly positive. Buyers (and their partners) found the pillow comfortable and supportive, and said it contributed to a good night’s sleep. Several reviews also praised the ability to customize the pillow by adding or removing fill. One reviewer even takes the pillow on trips.

Should you buy the Layla Memory Foam Pillow?

Two Layla Memory Foam Pillows on a bed

After over two weeks testing the Layla Memory Foam Pillow, we’ve fallen in love with it. For side sleepers, the pillow provides the right combination of comfort and support (although if you want a really high loft, this may not work for you). For back and stomach sleepers, removing some of the fill can help them find the right level of support to keep the neck and spine in alignment. However, since the pillow gets flat, they may not need to adjust it at all after one night.

Speaking of flatness, that’s perhaps the only fault that we could find with the Layla Memory Foam Pillow.  Having to refluff or air dry if you want a higher loft is rather tedious. Otherwise, the pillow provides a luxurious experience that is incredibly comfortable. The cover is also machine washable, which makes the pillow easy to care for – and if you want to wash the whole pillow, that’s an option as well.

Layla provides a 120-night trial, and a 5 year warranty, so you have plenty of time to decide if the pillow meets your needs or not.

The company also makes the Layla Kapok Pillow, which is on our list of the best bed pillows of 2023, and retails for $109 for a queen. It also has adjustable fill, but also comes with extra fill if you want to create a higher loft.  The Kapok pillow also contains natural Kapok fibers (that have been harvested from the seeds of Kapok trees and is designed to create a down-like feeling).

If you want more cooling features, the Casper Foam Pillow with Snow Technology uses HeatDelete Bands to direct heat away, and also uses AirScape perforated foam to increase airflow. It’s actually cool to the touch, which may be more important if you suffer from night sweats.
