The Council of the European Union approved a regulation to strengthen Europe’s presence in the world of semiconductors, better known as “Chips Act”. The legislation aims to create better conditions for European countries to get into semiconductor manufacturing, attract investments, promote research and innovation and prepare the continent for any future supply chain crisis. Why does the EU need the Chips Act? Once the program kicks in, it will see €43 total investments, €3.3B of which will be donated directly from the EU budget, and the aim is the global market share to double...
Data transfer between Europe and the United States was deemed illegal back in 2020 by an EU Court. The EU-US Data Privacy Framework introduces new binding safeguards to address all the concerns raised by the European Court of Justice, read a press release issued by the Commission. US Intelligence services still won’t be allowed to access EU data, and...

The European officials have once again found evidence of wrongdoing in the advertisement field. Since Google is in pretty much every step of the so-called adtech supply chain, the company is using its dominant market position to favor its own intermediation services. Interestingly enough, the US Department of Justice is also suing Google for its ad business and wants to split it up as it's illegally monopolizing the market. Google has set up services for both advertisers...

The company needs to discontinue the procedure within a six-month timeframe. According to the Data Protection Commission, Meta Ireland breached Article 46 (1) of the GDPR. The...

Microsoft has managed to assuage the EU’s concerns about its acquisition of Activision Blizzard King and it received the green light. The $68.7 billion deal still has hurdles to clear, e.g. it was recently blocked by the UK regulator, the FTC in the US is not on board yet either. EU’s approval came with a condition – Microsoft is required to give a 10-year license to competing cloud gaming services to allow them to stream Activision games. Here’s a tweet from Brad Smith (Vice Chair and President at Microsoft): Apparently, this was the key promise that won over the European...

The legislation draft also foresees clear labeling for the cost of product repairs and any potential repair restrictions by manufacturers. The industry will no...
