Author: admin | Category: Computers Gadgets Pro Security | Comments: Off

Are you still using insecure passwords that put your online accounts at risk? With so many data breaches, leveling up your password security game is time.

NordPass, from the makers of the popular NordVPN, is one of the best password managers that combines robust security features with a user-friendly interface. From its zero-knowledge encryption to multi-factor authentication and passkey support, NordPass ensures your passwords stay locked down tight.

But it's not just about security. NordPass makes password management a breeze with autofill, secure sharing, password health checks, and more. Whether you're an individual or a business, NordPass has flexible pricing plans to meet your needs, including a free tier.

The best part? NordPass strikes the perfect balance between robust security and convenience, making it a top choice for anyone looking to safeguard their online life. It also offers some excellent features that businesses can utilize to enhance their credential security, which you can read about at the bottom of this review.

Learn more about how NordPass can simplify your digital life while fortifying your defenses. Read on.

NordPass: Plans and pricing

There is a free tier with NordPass, which isn't always a given with password managers. It gets you storage for an unlimited number of passwords, which you can access from anywhere, but you’ll only be allowed one signed-in session at a time, so if you alternate between your phone and your computer, you’ll be kicked out each time you change your device.

It won't detect weak or reused passwords, and it won't scan the web for data breaches, which some competitor companies do even at this free level. It also won't let you mask your email or securely store files within the app.

NordPass Premium pricing

The Premium account turns all those features on and costs $1.99 per month for annual commitments, or $1.49 per month for a two year commitment. It also allows you to use trusted sharing, which grants access to trusted contacts in case of emergencies.

NordPass Family plan pricing

The top personal tier is the Family plan, which you can buy for as little as $3.69 per month on the one year plan, or $2.79 per month for the two year commitment. You'll get six accounts with this product alongside all of the features included with the Premium product. Both of these plans are also available with two-year commitments, which means you can save a bit more money if you’re willing to pay upfront.

It’s also worth mentioning that some countries, including major markets like Australia and Canada, will see pricing in USD. Despite this, billing will still occur in local currencies.

NordPass Business pricing

NordPass's standard Business product starts at $3.99 per user per month for the one year plan, or $3.59 per user per month for the two year plan, and can handle up to 150 users, so it's ideal for small and medium businesses. This time, it’s advertised in USD globally, but each country will pay in local currencies. You get all the features we've mentioned alongside a security dashboard, the option to deploy company-wide settings, and Google Workplace SSO. The business product also includes team management features, like company-wide settings deployment and real-time monitoring. If you need more than 150 users, NordPass prompts you to contact the sales department for a quote.

NordPass Enterprise pricing

The conventional business product doesn’t require a dedicated account manager or face-to-face onboarding. If you'd like those features, more SSO options, and user provisioning via Active Directory, you'll need the Enterprise product, and you'll again have to contact NordPass directly to get a quote.

In all cases, you can get a more significant discount via the NordPass promo codes that always are available to new users.

Unfortunately, Nord Security doesn’t offer bundles with its VPN service, NordVPN, which is a missed opportunity because other companies like Dashlane do.

NordPass: Setup

NordPass is a well-regarded password manager developed by the cybersecurity experts behind NordVPN. With a strong focus on security and a user-friendly interface, it offers a reliable way to manage passwords. If you've chosen NordPass as your digital vault, here's your step-by-step guide to setting it up.

To begin with, NordPass, head to the NordPass website and create an account. You can sign up with your email, and you'll need to create a master password. This master password is the key to unlocking your vault, so ensure it's strong and memorable. NordPass doesn't have access to this password, so remember it, or your vault will become inaccessible.

With your account ready, download the NordPass application for your device. NordPass supports various operating systems, including Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS. After downloading and installing the app, sign in with the NordPass credentials that you just created.

Once you're in, NordPass can import passwords from your previous password manager or browser. This step can save you a considerable amount of time, as manually adding each password can be tedious. NordPass typically provides a guide for importing data to help you through the process.

Now it's time to explore NordPass features. Familiarize yourself with the user interface and see how to add and manage passwords. Try out the auto-fill and auto-save functionalities by logging into a few of your accounts to see how smoothly NordPass operates.

If you have various types of data you want to keep secure, NordPass allows you to store not just passwords but also notes, credit card information, and even personal details for quickly filling out forms online. Each entry is encrypted, ensuring your sensitive information remains private.

To enhance security further, consider setting up two-factor authentication (2FA). NordPass supports several 2FA methods, adding an extra layer of protection to your account. With 2FA enabled, accessing your vault requires something you know (your master password) and something you have (such as a code from your phone).

NordPass also offers a secure password generator tool, which you should use to create new, complex passwords for your accounts. To boost online security, update any weak passwords, replacing them with intense, randomly generated ones from NordPass.

Finally, download and install the NordPass browser extensions for a seamless browsing experience. Whether you're using Chrome, Firefox, or Safari, the NordPass extension can help you auto-fill passwords, save new login credentials, and access your vault quickly.

By now, your NordPass account should be fully operational. As you continue using NordPass, it's essential to review your vault for outdated information regularly and also take advantage of any new features that NordPass may release. With the NordPass setup complete, you can know that managing your passwords is now secure and straightforward.

NordPass: Interface and performance

Everything about the NordPass interface is smooth and elegant, from the initial sign-up page to the apps you'll install as you get the software set up – it's actually one of the most polished experiences we've seen, and the same its true of other Nord Security products. Everything is built to be user-friendly and accessible, so it's a password manager that will suit users at all levels of technical know-how.

The software does a really good job of hiding itself away in the background and only popping up discreetly when needed, and we had no complaints in terms of getting our passwords synced across multiple devices (it only takes a second or two usually).

The helpful touches spread throughout were much appreciated. You can customize generated passwords by length or by turning off characters that can be misread as something else, for example). Following this theme, you can even streamline online shopping by letting NordPass input your credit card details and shipping info for a smoother checkout. It’s even possible to switch between different Nordpass accounts without compromising your security, so if you need to manage work and personal life separately, it’s easily done.

When it comes to managing your account, logging in and accessing your settings, passwords, and other stored information is very straightforward. We appreciate the clean interface that is well laid out, and easy to use.

Previously, we mentioned that it would be nice to be able to tag or otherwise sort different types of credentials, but this has now been addressed. Folders allow you to separate categories, for example social media, online shopping, and banking.

There’s a separate area for payment details, but it would be a nice addition to see a dedicated area for IDs, such as driving licenses and passports. These are the sorts of documents that you don’t carry every day, but when booking a flight, you might unexpectedly need to call on them.

The app's extra features are just as easy to use. Look to the bottom-right of the app and you'll find a password generator, password health assessment module, and a data breach scanner, and they're all as straightforward as the app's main functions.

NordPass: Passkeys

As more and more websites begin to add passkeys as a login option, password managers are beginning to commit to their adoption, but NordPass has actually already integrated passkey support, making it one of the first.

The desktop application, NordPass Web Vault, and Firefox and Chrome-based browser extensions are already compatible with passkeys, but Safari users will have to wait for a future release to be included. Mobile support is also coming as soon as software makers open up passkeys to third parties.

Passkeys are saved in a separate location from regular passwords, and chances are you’ll still have a vault full of passwords for a long time to come because the few websites that are adopting passkeys are just using them as secondary login methods.

Passkey login and passwordless authentication for accessing NordPass is also in the works, but details are limited at the moment.

NordPass password security tool

NordPass: Security

As you would expect from a developer that also offers a VPN, NordPass has a tight security setup. For a start it deploys a zero-knowledge approach, with end-to-end encryption for your password backups and data syncing – that means not even the NordPass team can see the data that you've got saved.

The increasingly well-respected XChaCha20 encryption algorithm is used, which is also a favorite of companies like Google and Cloudflare: it goes up to 256-bit encryption and is seen (by some at least) as a more future-proof solution than the AES-256 encryption commonly used elsewhere.

Biometric security can be added where supported – FaceID or Touch ID on Apple hardware, Windows Hello on a Windows machine, or a fingerprint reader for other smartphones. Two-factor authentication is supported for your NordPass account and the accounts you're storing passwords for. You're also able to use OTP generators or USB sticks to activate multi-factor authentication for added security.

NordPass also operated a blog which it uses to publicize important security tips alongside product announcements. The most common passwords page is particularly revealing, and even some less obvious passwords are at risk of being guessed in a matter of seconds.

NordPass Help Center

NordPass: Support

NordPass has an extensive Help Center that covers a gamut of topics. From helping you start with NordPass, managing your passwords, or troubleshooting common issues, the Help Center is your first go-to resource. The articles are detailed, easy to understand, and provide step-by-step guidance, making them an invaluable self-service tool.

For more personalized support, NordPass users can reach out via email. Whether you're encountering a specific issue or have a question that needs to be covered in the Help Center, the NordPass support team is ready to assist. Users can expect thoughtful, precise, and prompt responses. This channel is beneficial for complex issues that require detailed explanations.

NordPass takes its user support significantly with its 24/7 live chat service. This option is perfect for users looking for instant assistance. Whether you're struggling with installing NordPass, facing syncing issues, or need guidance on setting up a family account, the live chat team is always at your disposal. The immediacy and efficiency of live chat support ensure that users can resolve their issues without significant downtime.

Recognizing the power of social media in today's communication landscape, NordPass also offers support through its social media platforms. Users can reach out to NordPass through channels like Twitter for quick questions or updates on service status. This not only makes support accessible but also allows users to stay connected and informed about any new features or updates.

The NordPass Community Forum is a platform where users can share tips solutions, and engage in discussions related to NordPass. While not directly managed by the NordPass support team, these forums are monitored, and staff occasionally chime in. It's a great place to learn from other users’ experiences and share your own, fostering a sense of community among NordPass users.

For users keen on understanding and navigating through potential security issues, NordPass provides security advisories. These advisories detail any discovered vulnerabilities and the company’s steps to address them. It's a testament to NordPass's commitment to transparency and security.

As you can see, NordPass goes above and beyond to ensure that their users receive the support they need when they need it. Through a multi-channel support approach, NordPass caters to the varied preferences and requirements of its user base, ensuring a smooth and secure user experience.

NordPass: The competition

NordPass is one of the most prominent password managers around and, as such, it faces loads of strong competition. Apps like LastPass are good alternatives with similar feature sets and pricing structures, and you'd be well-served by either of those tools.

If you'd like something more affordable but admittedly more basic, a product like mSecure will get the job done – it doesn't have the business options or the high-end features of NordPass, but it ticks mainstream boxes and it's cheaper.

If you’re after the security associated with a company that’s also made a name for itself in the VPN world, then Dashlane or Proton Pass would be good alternatives.

NordPass: Final verdict

We're impressed with what we've seen of NordPass during our testing, and we think it's a great choice for individuals and small-to-mid-sized companies. It balances an aesthetically pleasing design with some useful features and advanced security protection, and it holds up well when you compare it against anything else on the market.

Pricing is competitive, and it's nice to see a free tier available. Negatively, it doesn't have more advanced tools like Wi-Fi syncing and Dark Web scanning, but that shouldn't put you off unless you're looking for a password manager with every possible feature.

NordPass Business

NordPass Business: Team and Admin features

Business users get a cloud-based admin console to control and regulate password management for their organizations.

As an admin, you can use this console to exercise comprehensive control over user access and permissions. You can also use it to manage and monitor user activities, and ensure that your business’ security policies are enforced consistently.

NordPass Business offers three distinct roles for users to help segregate duties, and control access within the organization.

The Owner has the most privileges, and can manage all aspects of the organization. Then there’s Admin who can access the admin panel, and most of its management functions, but cannot grant or revoke the owner’s rights. Finally, there’s the User whose access is restricted to the NordPass password manager app.

NordPass for Business lets you organize your users in groups, for instance, based on the departments, or projects in the company. You can then share an item with a group, which is automatically made available to all of the group’s members.

In addition to groups, users can also share anything they’ve saved in their vaults, including login credentials, passkeys, secure notes, and more, with other users as well. These shared items can be permission-limited, and there are multiple access levels a user can choose from. Users can hand out full edit permissions, or restrict access to just reshare, or view the shared details.

NordPass business features

NordPass for Business also enables admins to define company-wide password policies to enforce strong password requirements. Admins can keep the length of the password between 8 and 60 characters, mandate the use of uppercase letters, digits, and special characters. They can also ensure users are made to change passwords either after 30, 60, 90,or 180 days.

To ensure adherence to the password policy, admins can monitor compliance from the admin panel as well. The panel also has an activity log that tracks actions, such as credential use, and admin panel activity, for every user. The log can be filtered for a particular time period, and/or user.

NordPass business features

NordPass Business: Integrations and Compatibility

NordPass for Business offers several integrations for organizations of all sizes.

The first and foremost of these is its support for several popular Single Sign-On (SSO) and the best identity providers, including Okta, Entra ID, Google Workspace, and Microsoft Active Directory Federation Service (ADFS).

These help NordPass for Business streamline the authentication process, and also enhance security by reducing the number of credentials your users need to manage. Once enabled, users in your organization can log in using their existing corporate credentials.

Remember though, the Business plan only includes support for Google Workspace SSO. If you need to plug in Okta, Entra ID, or ADFS, you’ll need to subscribe to the Enterprise plan.

To help ensure your company maintains compliance with industry standards, NordPass for Business integrates with platforms like Vanta, and Splunk. While Vanta helps fuse the password manager with your compliance workflows, the latter, which is only available as part of the Enterprise plan, feeds NordPass activity logs into the data analysis platform, for enhanced security monitoring and analysis.

The Enterprise plan also offers an Activity Logs API that enables organizations to integrate activity log data from the password manager with their own Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) systems and other tools. In addition to monitoring, and reporting for internal purposes, this also helps in compliance with standards like SOC 2, ISO 27001, and HIPAA.

NordPass Business: Ease of Use and Deployment

Just like its desktop apps and browser plugins for end users, the cloud-based admin panel of NordPass for Business has a clear, and intuitive user interface.

On first launch, the interface will list the most important tasks that must be completed, which is a wonderful way to help new admins take charge of their password management solution.

You’ll be asked to review your policies, both for passwords as we’ve described above, as well as for guest sharing. The latter must be explicitly enabled if you want to allow users in your organization to share passwords and other items with people outside your business, like partners, customers, or contractors.

You can also allow your users to export their passwords, and other items as a CSV file, from the policies section. One interesting option you should enable from under here is email masking. This feature allows your users to generate alternative email addresses to sign up for online services, concealing their true identity, and mitigating phishing attempts..

Next up, you should turn on SSO before you onboard and invite users from across your organization. All your users should also install the NordPass browser extension to import their passwords.

You can also choose to skip the process, and jump right into the Dashboard of the admin panel. From the dashboard you can review the number of users added or invited into the platform. For more control over the users, head to the Members section from where you can arrange users into groups, earmark their access levels, and even invite new ones, or remove existing ones.

Even without SSO, the process for onboarding users is rather straightforward. You can either invite users by specifically mentioning the email address of the users you want to invite, or uploading a CSV or text file with email addresses. Or, you can mention one or more domain names, and anyone with an email address from these domains will be able to join via an invite link.

In either case, the users will receive a link to create their NordPass for Business account, after which they’ll be added into the platform.

NordPass business features

One of the most critical areas that you as admins must frequent is the Password Health dashboard. It helps identify weak, reused, or old passwords. There’s also the Data Breach Scanner that scans the dark web for compromised emails, or passwords linked to your company’s domain.

NordPass business features

There’s also the Sharing Hub, currently under beta testing, that gives you details about all the shared items within your organization, whether they are shared internally, or externally.

All things considered, the admin panel is a logically laid out interface that gives a good overview of the use of the password management system by employees in your organization.

We've featured the best password recovery software.

What to look for in a password manager

The primary purpose of a password manager is to keep your passwords secure, so top-notch security features are non-negotiable. Look for a manager that offers strong encryption standards, such as AES-256, to ensure your data is safe from prying eyes. Two-factor authentication (2FA) can add an extra layer of security, requiring not just a password and username but also something only the user has on them, like a piece of information or a physical device.

A password manager should make your life easier, not harder. A user-friendly interface that allows you to easily store, retrieve, and organize your passwords can save you time and frustration. Whether it’s a desktop app, mobile app, or browser extension, ensure the user experience is smooth and intuitive.

In today’s interconnected world, we access our accounts from multiple devices like smartphones, tablets, and PCs. A good password manager should be compatible across various platforms and devices, allowing you to access your passwords, whether on an iPhone in the morning or a Windows PC in the evening.

One of the perks of using a password manager is that it can generate strong and unique passwords for you, bypassing the temptation to use easily guessable passwords. Look for a manager with a built-in password generator, which can create complex passwords that are tough for hackers to crack.

A password manager should streamline your browsing experience by automatically filling in your login information when you visit sites and apps. Additionally, look for an auto-save feature that prompts you to save new passwords as you create them, ensuring your password vault is always up-to-date.

While many free password managers offer basic features, investing in a paid version can provide enhanced security and additional features. Evaluate the pricing plans to find one that fits your budget and meets your security needs. Remember, the cost of a password manager is minuscule compared to the potential loss from a cyberattack.

Even with the most intuitive platforms, questions or issues can arise. Good customer support can be invaluable, offering help through resources like FAQs, forums, email support, or live chat. Before committing to a password manager, check out their support options.

Lastly, read the provider’s privacy policy to understand how your data will be used and protected. A trustworthy password manager should have a straightforward policy that ensures they do not misuse your data or provide it to third parties without consent.

Choosing the right password manager is a crucial step in securing your digital life. By considering these features, you can find a tool that not only keeps your passwords safe but also enhances your online experience. Remember, in cybersecurity, being proactive is always better than being reactive.

Aircall VoIP review
7:25 pm | November 9, 2021

Author: admin | Category: Computers Gadgets Phone & Communications Pro | Comments: Off

One of the best VoIP services to consider for ease of us is Aircall's VoIP offering: presented as a slick and simple approach to managing business calls and your overall VoIP business phone system.

Although designed for customer management teams, the software can be used by a variety of professionals looking to start conversations anywhere in the world, from small businesses to larger enterprises.

There are, of course, a huge array of VoIP options available in 2024, from the likes of Zoom to RingCentral to 8x8, and all of them have their own pros and cons. Some are ideally suited to sole traders, for example, while others can seamlessly handle calls with over 200 participants.

It's worth checking out each individual service to make the right decision, especially as your needs are unlike to be exactly identical to another business's.

In this Aircall review, we investigate how this valuable cloud-based call center software could suit your particular business needs, and compare it to available VoIP alternatives.

Aircall VoIP: Plans and pricing

Aircall offers three tiers of subscription for organizations: Essentials, Professional, and Custom. Let's run through each.

The basic Essentials plan is filled with features, like access to over 100 integrations (which is usually the reserve of more expensive plans) and unlimited domestic calls. There’s also support for call queuing,  ring groups, extensions, and recording. This package does have a lot to offer for SMBs, however larger companies may struggle with its three-team limit, plus the lack of more premium features. While it’s great for smaller companies, it’s not cheap, at $40 per user per month.

Next up, Professional add things like call monitoring and whispering, more detailed analytics, and Salesforce integration, which are ideal for larger companies with sales in mind. Companies with more than 15 employees also get a dedicated account manager and personalized onboarding sessions that sets this above many of its rivals. It’s almost double the price, though, at $70 per user per month, which is especially expensive.

Finally, if your business wants to tailor its plan to specific needs, you can speak to Aircall about their Custom plan, which can include as much or as little as required.

As ever, there are savings to be had for annual payments, bringing the monthly equivalent costs down to $30 and $50 for Essentials and Professional, respectively, marking savings of between 25% and 29% – not too bad.

Aircall VoIP: Features

Aircall offers an extremely flexible phone management system.

Calls can be made from both desktop and mobile devices, allowing work to be done both on an in-office basis and on the go – ideal for teams operating remotely.

There is also the option of voicemail personalization, which lets users pre-record messages to greet callers when they are unavailable. This is a great option for those looking to improve customer experience, as generic hold music is rarely welcomed.

The downside to Aircall is that although the software includes a conferencing option, it's limited to five people and doesn’t include video options. However, this won’t be an issue for those who are operating traditional call centers and wouldn’t prioritize video calling options. Most other VoIP platforms also have video conferencing suites, though, which makes Aircall look a little expensive by comparison.

These core features can also be connected to the business tools you use to operate effectively, with the option of integrating 100+ compatible cloud-based technologies. You might use these integrations for CRM, for transcribing voice calls, or for automatically sending satisfaction surveys to gather feedback on your team’s performance.

Building a network of shared contacts is also a simple process: users can sync Aircall with Google Apps, Pipedrive, and similar apps, importing data such as contact details for customers.

Users of Aircall can distribute calls by forwarding them to more suitable team members and adding briefs and comments to give the assignee more context. This assignment option is useful as it saves time spent chasing the most appropriate team member to handle the case.

If the selected team member is unavailable, Aircall chooses the next available team member or adds the call to a queue. This also benefits callers who might previously have spent a long time on hold, improving their relationship with the company.

With Aircall, you can access real-time metrics and track how your organization is doing. Tracking includes call volume, missed call rates, and wait times, with all data stored in one place. This makes reporting on performance accurate and straightforward. It also enables team managers to identify the success rates of new workflows and make changes depending on the results.

Everything in Aircall is accessible from its sleek dashboard, including contact lists and the dialer app itself (where all calls are made). Other features, including support, can be found by using the Quick Search option within the dashboard.

The initial setup of Aircall is quick. Users first need to download the app onto their computer before logging in and getting started with making calls. Users can then configure settings and call preferences, build their team, and edit their account settings from the dashboard.

Calls, assignments, and requests can also be managed using Aircall’s Android and iOS apps. Usability-wise, both the app and the desktop layout are minimalistic, reducing distraction and confusion.

Aircall VoIP: Support

Aircall provides an extensive knowledge base for all users, along with resources and materials to help users better understand how the software works in practice, and offers onboarding guides so that each new team member can easily get started.

Live chat support is available on the Aircall website for users of all tiers, as well as on user dashboards. The website also has a chatbot, so responses are near-instant.

Every tier gets phone and email support, but it’s only larger organizations on Professional or Custom plans that get the most personalized approach. Not many other companies offer something like this.

Aircall security

Aircall VoIP: Security

Aircall takes security seriously.

All customer data is encrypted, protected, and stored in data centers. The company follows recommendations from security frameworks including SOC2 and PCI/DSS. Aircall doesn’t store passwords or customers’ credit card information.

Data protection

Aircall also operates a vendor management program that is designed to protect sensitive information and complies with all relevant laws. The VoIP provider evaluates all new vendors to ensure they meet internal security and privacy standards.

Integration security

For many  VoIP services, having a large number of integrations with third-party services is essential. For Aircall, this means having partnerships with big-name CRM players like Salesforce and HubSpot, as well as integrations with smaller players like transcription platform Jiminny and recruitment service Bullhorn.

While the larger players are likely to already be adhering to the highest security standards, smaller third-party services are more of an unknown quantity. That’s why it’s reassuring that Aircall vets all its integrations before approval.

Given that the number of cyberattacks targeting VoIP platforms have risen significantly recently as more companies resort to Internet-based communications following the boom of the hybrid working routine, Aircall’s security standards should provide businesses with a little more peace of mind.

Furthermore, Aircall regularly performs penetration testing and operates a generous bug bounty program to ensure that any vulnerabilities that are present are discovered and patched before the bad actors become aware of them.

Security expertise

In addition, Aircall runs a blog examining certain issues related to VoIP technology - including existing security issues. The company walks through some of the main attack vectors, including vishing, DDoS attacks, eavesdropping and phreaking.

As well as cyberattacks, VoIP users will also be keen to ensure that they select a reliable VoIP service. Again, Aircall scores highly here, regularly backing up customer data and using AWS as a hosting provider to ensure a resilient service.

Aircall review

Aircall VoIP: The competition

There is a growing marketplace for internet-based communication platforms, so if Aircall isn’t right for you, there are others to consider. RingCentral, for example, costs a similar amount per month but has the added benefit of video call support.

DialPad offers a longer trial for new users, giving them more time to experiment with the software, while GoToConnect has an equally impressive list of features as Aircall. However, both fail to offer the extensive integrations available with Aircall, making it a more customizable option.

Elsewhere, Zoom, 8x8, Vonage, and Ooma all have compelling offerings.

Aircall VoIP: Final verdict

Aircall helps users personalize workflows, learn how they work best, and drive productivity within teams. While Aircall may be one of the more expensive VoIPs, it could make a huge difference for SMBs requiring a flexible and powerful approach to CRM.

We came away very impressed with the overall package, the array of help and support (across all tiers), and the general ease-of-use.

OVHcloud web hosting review
9:12 am |

Author: admin | Category: Computers Gadgets Pro Website Hosting | Comments: Off

Founded in 1999 by Octave Claba, OVHcloud is a French web hosting company with an international presence thanks to over 400,000 servers spread across more than 43 data centers in four continents. It offers a wide variety of cloud-based solutions to over 1.6 million seemingly satisfied customers. The company is headquartered in Roubaix (France), and its data centers can be found in the USA, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Germany, Poland, France, Singapore, and Australia.

Network

OVHcloud has a global network of 32 data centers on four continents (Image credit: OVHcloud)

In December of 2010, OVHcloud was revealed to the public as a web hosting provider for WikiLeaks, making them a small part of the story that shook the world. In October of 2021, the company enhanced its public cloud portfolio with a Database as a Service (DBaaS) catalog of services with which its customers would be free of tedious tasks such as database configuration, the set-up, software, and hardware maintenance, and so forth.

What types of hosting does OVHcloud offer?

As the largest provider in Europe today, OVHcloud offers a wide range of hosting products, from shared and VPS hosting to dedicated and even gaming-optimized servers for hosting. What’s more, it also offers both private and public cloud instances, bringing the benefits of cloud to small, medium, and enterprise customers.

Shared hosting

OVHcloud is one of the cheapest, if not the cheapest, provider when it comes to shared web hosting. Plans start at just $1.04 per month for the Starter Hosting tier which gets you 1 GB of disk space, free domain name for the first year, support for one website, free SSL certificate, anti-DDoS protection, and one-click WordPress installation. What's more, you also get access to OVHcloud’s Web Statistics tool for free, using which you can track page visits and engagement.

For support for more websites and CMS (Joomla!, Drupal, and Prestashop) as well as more storage and number of email accounts, consider upgrading to one of the three higher-end plans which range from $4.39/month to $13.19/month.

Interestingly, though, the shared hosting plans mentioned above do not come with CDN included; perhaps that's why they're among the cheapest plans in the industry. CDN, which reduces the loading time for your pages, will cost an extra $2.79 per month.

Dedicated server hosting

Unlike shared hosting where thousands of websites are hosted and stored on a single server, dedicated hosting allocates all the server disk space and resources to your website—no sharing resources with other websites. This results in better speeds and optimal performance.

With OVHcloud, you can spend anywhere between $50 and $4,000 on a dedicated server. The cheapest of the lot comes with the Intel Xeon E Processor, 32 GB RAM, and 1 TB SSD NVMe storage. This is an excellent package and right up there with the very best dedicated server hosting providers.

A highlight of the service is its filtering system. You can select from a number of options under location, hardware (AMD vs Intel, core/threads, frequency, etc), price, and use cases to filter out the dedicated servers that fit your needs and budget. To put it simply, this is similar to what you get on shopping apps such as Amazon. Even better, the provider has dedicated servers for a wide variety of use cases, including Artificial Intelligence, gaming, grid computing, and so on.

However, I feel that it’s not as secure as it could be. InMotion, for example, comes packed with security features, including free SSL certificates, a custom firewall, DDoS protection, auto-updates, and heavily guarded data centers. To be fair, though, OVHcloud does come with SSL certificates and protection against DDoS attacks and DNS cache poisoning, so there’s a good amount of protection on offer.

VPS hosting

A virtual private server (VPS) divides a single physical server into multiple private server environments. Each of these “private” servers has dedicated resources (meaning better performance than what you’d get with shared hosting), but at the same time, the websites within the one large physical server are still essentially sharing resources, which keeps the cost down.

OVHcloud offers a ton of VPS server options, meaning choosing one is admittedly not as simple as, say, DreamHost or Liquid Web. At the same time, though, some users may like the availability of so many options. Where OVHcloud really sets itself apart is that all of its VPS servers are parts of its cloud environment, so you’ll benefit from auto-scaling, which will allow you to only pay for what you use.

There are a total of eight plans to choose from, ranging from 1-16 CPU cores, 2-16 GB RAM, 20-160 GB SSD NVMe, and up to 2 Gbps unmetered bandwidth. This degree of customization allows you to choose the best plan for your unique requirements—plus, whether it’s a small business with a handful of websites or a large-scale application, there’s a plan for every use case.

Cloud hosting

OVHcloud is hands down one of the best cloud hosting providers on the market right now. First things first, it offers two cloud products—public cloud instances and hosted private cloud. The latter is designed for large enterprises that want high-performance dedicated resources along with the benefits of the cloud. So, OVHcloud’s Public Cloud instances, which combine flexibility, guaranteed resources, and affordable prices, is where the party's at for most businesses and websites.

OVHcloud is particularly great for niche businesses who want to be able to configure a cloud hosting plan to their liking. Where typical cloud hosts offer only a handful of plans, OVHcloud knocks it out of the park with 10+ broad filters, including storage, network, databases, data analytics, etc., all of which then have several subdivisions inside each of them, allowing you to zero in on the perfect plan for your business’s needs.

For instance, if you want to run applications that require high-frequency computing, you can choose a plan from the ‘Compute Optimized’ section. Alternatively, if you dabble in data analysis and data science, a ‘Memory Optimized’ cloud hosting plan will be a perfect choice.

Also, if you want to steer clear of the extreme customization, OVHcloud allows you to do that too—just stick to the ‘General Purpose’ plans that provide balanced CPU/RAM resources. A highlight of OVHcloud is that no matter what plan you pick, you will get a generous $200 credit so that you can test OVHcloud’s services risk-free.

Coming to the costs, the most basic cloud hosting plan is $0.0508 per hour and gets you 8 GB of RAM, 2 vCores, and 50 GB fast NVMe storage. It’s worth noting that you can also opt for monthly billing, although that option is only available from the 7 GB RAM plan onwards.

Is OVHcloud the cheapest cloud hosting? Nope. DreamHost at $0.0075 per hour and IONOS at $0.0056 per hour are much cheaper, meaning they are better suited for users who need the benefits of cloud i.e. auto-scaling and geo-redundancy, but don’t require the amount of power OVHcloud’s most basic plan offers.

However, OVHcloud comes with on-demand resources, meaning that your contact is non-binding—you can delete a resource at any time following which you won't be charged for it. Also, unlike other providers that may charge you for instance network traffic or API calls from Object Storage, OVHcloud offers these for free.

Dedicated solutions for different industries

In addition to the above, where OVHcloud really stands tall is being a highly versatile and customizable hosting provider. Servers with DDoS protection and quick scaling for hosting large-scale video games? Check. Servers that facilitate remote learning and collaboration for the education industry? Check. Minecraft VPS servers—the kind you get with industry leaders such as Hostinger? Check.

Similarly, OVHcloud has a compliant and secure solution for just about every industry, whether that’s healthcare, IT, nonprofit, or the government sector. It also carries the proper attestations and certifications (HIPAA, HITECH, PCI DSS, etc) to be able to be this diverse.

Plans and pricing

OVHcloud’s scope of cloud hosting solutions includes a public cloud, a private cloud, and a bare-metal cloud, under which you’ll find VPS, dedicated servers, managed bare metal hosting, as well as additional storage, backup, network, security, email, and big data solutions, domain name registration, and management services.

The cloud solutions start relatively cheap with the “Personal” coming at $3.99 per month with an annual subscription. This plan can supply you with five websites, a free domain name for the first year, 100GB disk space (SSD), unlimited bandwidth, 10 email accounts (up to 1GB per account), one SQL database (up to 200 MB), support for Python (CGI), MySQL 5.6,  PHP (8.0 / 7.4 / 7.3), optimization for WordPress, anti-DDoS protection, and a Let's Encrypt SSL certificate. If you want more features and fewer restrictions on resources, you’ll have to purchase a bigger plan.

Unlike other hosts, OVHcloud doesn’t provide any free trials or money-back guarantees with its services, which means that if you decide to cancel their services, you can say goodbye to any money you’ve invested so far, including additional setup fees.

As for payment methods, with OVHcloud you can pay via credit/debit cards (Visa, MasterCard, and Maestro), PayPal, cheques, postal orders (in value of up to £250), and bank transfers.

Ease of use

OVHcloud’s official site uses a monochrome palette that plays with different shades of blue making itself quite easy on the eyes. It also utilizes a familiar page layout, provides plenty of information and features an up-to-date blog, all of which creates a user-friendly experience. The site is available in French, English, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Polish, and Dutch.

Fans of social networking sites can find OVHcloud on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube, where all accounts look very much alive.

After selecting a plan you want to use, you’ll be asked to pick out a pre-installed CMS from WordPress, PrestaShop, Drupal, Joomla, or to go without one. As for add-ons, you can include a CDN and extra SSL certificates (Let’s Encrypt SSL comes free of charge). After this, you can choose your domain name, where one is included for free for the first year with all OVHcloud’s plans.

If you have an account with OVHcloud, now is when you need to log in. If not, it’s time to create one, and doing so will need your full name, email address, and password. It’s also advisable to go through the “Terms of Service” before cracking on with any further steps. After this, you’ll have to pass a verification via email and surrender all the additional data (your telephone number, country, city, postcode, and language) to finish creating your account.

Dashboard

You can manage billing, payment methods, support and more from OVHcloud's dashboard (Image credit: OVHcloud)

When all of this is done, you’ll gain access to OVHcloud’s dashboard, from which you can complete your purchase if you haven’t done so already. From here, you should be able to monitor and manage all aspects of your account, such as changing passwords, creating/restoring backups, creating/deleting databases, and so forth.

It’s worth noting that we didn’t use the word “should” because of a lack of belief in your abilities but due to the somewhat slow, painfully plain, and not too novice-friendly OVHcloud dashboard.

Unfortunately, even if you are willing to invest some cash into an intuitive industry-standard control panel, you can choose between cPanel, Plesk, DirectAdmin, and ISPconfig3 with only some of the many OVHcloud plans. For instance, industry-leading cPanel is only available with dedicated server hosting plans that start at $56.75 per month, and this isn’t something most users who look for simple solutions will be willing to pay.

Performance

We used GTmetrix to measure the uptime and response time of OVHcloud's main site (Image credit: GTmetrix)

How fast is OVHcloud?

An abundance of data centers scattered across the globe typically predicts lightning-fast speeds, and this is true with OVHcloud. A GTmetrix test performed on OVHcloud’s main site shows that it took 2.9 seconds for it to fully load, whereas the recommended time is less than 3.5 seconds (and the average is 8.1). On top of this, all other web vitals (speed measuring metrics) showed a presentable performance building-up to a near-perfect A (95%) as a final GTmetrix grade.

As for uptime, OVHcloud offers a 99.9% uptime guarantee backed by SLA across most of its VPS ranges. Now, uptime is perhaps the only major area where the service falls slightly short of the competition. Sure, 99.9% backed by SLA is nothing to sniff at, but rivals such as InMotion Hosting offer a 99.999% uptime guarantee, whereas Liquid Web and DreamHost lead the space with a whopping 100% uptime guarantee.

OVHcloud also claims that all of its data centers are designed to Tier 3+ standards, meaning that the maximum amount of downtime a site should suffer throughout a year should be less than 1.6 hours in total (or 99.982% uptime). During a two-week-long uptime test on OVHcloud’s main site (via UptimeRobot), we only recorded a single case of downtime, but that lasted for 15 minutes straight. This amounted to 99.93% of uptime, which is a bit lower than we expected but still in line with the service’s uptime guarantee.

OVHcloud customer support

Although OVHcloud claims to be completely committed to its customers, this doesn’t seem to be the case with its customer support. There are four levels of support: Standard, Premium, Business, and Enterprise support. The lowest level called “Standard Support'' consists of several self-help options including a brief FAQ section, a knowledge base, and a community forum.

Knowledgebase

OVHcloud's knowledgebase contains plenty of step-by-step guides to help get you started (Image credit: OVHcloud)

The knowledgebase contains plenty of step-by-step guides (some of which contain videos and others screenshots), which is fortunate since there’s barely anything to help and encourage beginners. On the other hand, the community forum seems quite active—although we did find several months-old questions that are still left unanswered.

It’s worth noting that “Standard Support” is the only level of support that comes with every single hosting solution without any additional charges. “Premium Support” costs $56 per month, “Business Support” starts at $300 per month, and to find what fortune you’ll have to pay to get “Enterprise Support” you’ll have to request a callback from the sales team.

Anyway, you are free to contact OVHcloud’s sales team via telephone (on weekdays from 9 AM to 5 PM) and email/ticket. However, don’t expect to get anything but basic information here. OVHcloud also claims they’re planning to launch live chat support “soon” but they’ve been claiming that forever. The lack of live chat support (even one powered by a chatbot) is disappointing. So, if you have any questions regarding the service and you’d like to reach out to them, you’ll have to send them a message and then wait for a reply.

The competition

All those looking for a cloud-based solution can find an amazing alternative to OVHcloud in a US-based host called DigitalOcean. Both hosts are geared toward developers and tech-savvy users in general, to whom they offer a nice variety of web hosting products, and the similarities stop there. OVHcloud may be much cheaper than its competitor, but with DigitalOcean you’ll get better value for money and a bit better customer support.

Another popular alternative could be Linode, a US-based host with a data center network that parallels the one of OVHcloud. However, while Linode offers a 7-day trial to new users (and a 60-day credit), you won’t get anything similar with OVHcloud.

When it comes to user-friendliness, availability of customer support, and beginner-friendly features (such as free domain registration, industry-standard control panel, and money-back guarantee), HostGator wins the day. That being said, since HostGator has data centers in the USA only, it is less convenient to users elsewhere.

While OVHcloud stays outside the beginner’s comfort zone, Bluehost strives to boost the confidence of less experienced users by offering a full list of beginner-friendly features, round-the-clock support, a one-click installer with lots of apps, a drag-and-drop website builder, and a 30-day money-back guarantee. This means that you’ll have enough time to try everything out for yourself without a need to worry about your budget.

Final verdict

With over two decades of experience, OVHcloud does a commendable job at supplying its customers with a variety of competitively priced cloud-based necessities, including VPS, dedicated servers, bare-metal servers, hosted private cloud, public cloud, as well as hybrid solutions.

On the downside, though, OVHcloud isn’t as geared towards beginners as we would have liked, its customer support needs a serious revamp, and the lack of a refund period means that you can’t try out the service risk-free. If you think this could be a deal killer for you, check out more beginner-friendly hosts such as Hostinger and Bluehost before parting with your money.

NCH Software DreamPlan 2025 review

Author: admin | Category: Computers Gadgets Pro Software & Services | Comments: Off

Home design and landscaping has taken a life of its own since the advent of powerful home computers. For years now, these machines have taken care of the minutia, while we focus on the more exciting side of the equation: creating and designing our dream projects.

It’s of little surprise how competitive this field has become, from dedicated apps to online services competing to become the best interior design software. NCH’s DreamPlan belongs in the former category, offering a product that works both on Windows computers (7 and above) and Macs (10.5 and later). Let’s take a look at it…

  • You can download DreamPlan via the NCH Software by clicking here.

DreamPlan: Pricing and plans

Dreamplan during our review

DreamPlan’s standard 3D video allows you to visualise your project, and build and alter it with ease (Image credit: NCH Software)
  • Two price options to purchase the software outright, and there’s even a very reasonable rental scheme. What’s not to like?

NCH belongs to that wonderful old school of developers who (mostly) don’t try to milk their customers for all they’re worth: instead of offering to rent their software to you, they let you purchase it outright.

DreamPlan comes in two flavours. The cheapest one is for ‘home use only’ with a licence limited for personal use, and will cost you $40. But for just an extra $10, you can grab ‘DreamPlan Home Design Software Plus’, which grants you a commercial licence.

If you’re more in favour of rentals than owning your software, fret not, as NCH have got your back: for less than $3 a month, you can grab yourself the commercial licence version, including all future upgrades. Considering the price of some software rentals, this is a pretty darn good deal.

Also do check their site, as they regularly offer generous discounts on their software, making a good price, even better.

If you’re curious about what DreamPlan has to offer, NCH also offers a free trial version.

DreamPlan: Interface

Dreamplan during our review

DreamPlan has 3 different 2D views: a blueprint-like display, one with rendered decorations, and this isometric view (Image credit: NCH Software)
  • The interface’s icons look pretty dated, but don’t get stuck on the software’s looks: everything is well organised and you’ll have no problem finding the tools you need, and switching between the four available views

Launching DreamPlan might make you think that you’ve gone back in time, as the interface has a very strong 90s feel. But lack of modern polish aside, you’ll find the software works, and it works well. You have the choice of starting a project from scratch, or base it upon an existing template, the latter of which is a great way to familiarise yourself with what DreamPlan can do.

By default, you’re presented with a rendered 3D view where you’ll be building your project, but if you’d prefer a more traditional 2D floor plan, select ‘2D view - Blueprint’ from the ‘View’ menu. Fancy something more in-between? The ‘2D view - Render’ might be what you’re after: it combines the flat paper-like interaction, with the textures that come as standard in the 3D environment. Finally, there's ‘Isometric View’, which gives your project’s wall that 3D look that’s usually missing from a 2D environment.

Whichever view you select, you’ll be able to access every tool at your disposal, and interact with your project as you’d expect.

The interface itself is quite simple to find your way around: you’ve got a menu at the top breaking down your tools by categories, such as Building, Exterior, Landscaping, and so forth. Each category comes with its own unique features. For instance, if you’re looking for Decking, that’ll be in ‘Decks’; Furniture, Painting and Electronics, you’ll find that under ‘Interior’.

You’ve got a couple of sidebars on the left and right of the interface. One contains most functions that are replicated in menus and keyboard shortcuts, while the other contains a selected item’s changeable properties. All very straightforward and easy to get to grips with, since it’s all pretty much standard fare for any design application.

There’s also an additional view, usually placed lower right of the interface, but you can move it around and resize it at will. It’s set to the opposite view from the main window, so if you’re working in 2D, it'll be a smaller 3D representation of your project, through which you can navigate separately from what you’re seeing in the main screen. Note that it’s merely a visual aid: you can’t alter your project through it.

DreamPlan: Designing

Dreamplan during our review

DreamPlan has enough indoor and outdoor objects to create complex projects, be they intricate homes, and bustling cafes (Image credit: NCH Software)
  • Huge amount of versatility, both indoors and outdoors, with a wide range of customisable objects you can use to bring your creation to life. If you ever feel overwhelmed by the possibilities, do check out NCH’s video tutorials

Starting a project is very simple: since the ‘Building’ menu is selected by default, click on Walls then click and drag on the 3D landscape to create one. To speed things up, choose ‘Room’ instead, modify its dimensions in the Inspector section, go to the main part of the interface, click, and it’s added. In order to make adding walls or rooms that little bit easier, you can toggle the ‘Magnetic Grid Snap’ function. That way, your objects will snap to a grip or to each other, as you drag them.

Adding windows and doors is more intricate, as you need to choose the one you have in mind in the Properties section. Selecting one from the list will bring up a new floating window displaying a rotating 3D render of what you’ve clicked on. Altering its parameters (be it its dimensions or colours) will automatically change its appearance in that window.

The same applies to the furniture you can add to garnish your design, and the number available is impressive. Everything from bookcases, to coffee tables, to sofas, to integrated ovens, to laptops, and so much more. Add to that the option to decorate walls, and go beyond your home by landscaping the entire surrounding area, adding swimming pools, decks, plants, and, really, anything you fancy. Thank goodness there’s a handy search field to help you find what you’re looking for.

If you find yourself getting lost, or confused as to what to do next, NCH has produced a good number of handy video tutorials. Even better, you will find the odd camera icon, at the top of the Properties and Stories sections. Clicking on such an icon will take you to a webpage where all these videos are stored, greatly speeding up the learning process. Speaking of ‘Stories’, these refer to a building’s elevation because, like all good design software, you can build a project across multiple floors, including basements.

You’ll find NCH DreamPlan is a lot of fun to use, and it won’t take you long to get immersed in a complex project. The fact you can expand your design to cover landscaping as well, even raising and lowering portions of the ground, really adds to the experience, and of course, the software comes with a generous number of trees, plants, grasses, and flowers. DreamPlan makes it easy to alter your design, and does all it can to help you in your architectural journey. Definitely worth a look.

  • Score: 4.5/5

Should I buy DreamPlan?

If you’re looking for an affordable building design package that’s easy to use, provides a good number of video tutorials, and allows you to expand your projects to include the surrounding landscape.

Don't buy it if...

You’re in the market for something a lot more visually striking by today’s standards, especially if you’re looking for something that produces photorealistic renders of your projects.

Ashampoo Home Design 9 review
11:30 am | November 4, 2021

Author: admin | Category: Computers Gadgets Pro Software & Services | Comments: Off

Ashampoo Home Design has been around for a very long time, and we’re now onto version 9. The software is still Windows only, but is now only compatible with versions 10 and 11 of that operating system, and it won’t run on any ARM processor. Apart from that, if your computer runs that OS, it will run Home Design. We loaded up the latest version to see how it compares to the best interior home design software we've tested out.

Ashampoo Home Design 9: Pricing & plans

Ashampoo Home Design 9 during our review

Launch the app and be graced with a carousel of templates, use the building wizard to kickstart your project, or check the very good tutorials (Image credit: Ashampoo)
  • No subscription but a very affordable price to purchase the software, which is made even cheaper by great deals. You also have a very cheap way to upgrade from an earlier version, and a generous 30-day trial… it’s all wins here.

The price of Home Design is actually hard to believe. It’s old school, so there’s no subscription options, which is already a very good thing: how many more subscriptions can you actually, truly manage?

So instead, Ashampoo offers its product for an upfront fee of $50 for the full version, with no in-app purchases. But if that still sounds like too much, check their site, as there are often some incredible deals. For instance, as of this writing, you can get this package for 60% off: only $20, which is ridiculously good value.

Now obviously the main problem with purchasing a version outright, is that you don’t get access to the latest and greatest features when they’ll be released in the future, but even here Ashampoo has a great deal for you: you can upgrade to 9 from an older version for only $15.

And if none of that tempts you, you can download a copy and use it free for 30 days to check out if it suits your needs.

You can check out Ashampoo Home Design 9 by clicking here.

Ashampoo Home Design 9: Getting Started

Ashampoo Home Design 9 during our review

The Wizard option lets you quickly set up the basics of your building, although you have to do all the changes through number fields (Image credit: Ashampoo)
  • An old style command bar that takes up way too much space, coupled with a handy Wizard that lets you hit the ground running by creating the basic structure for you. So, some positive, some negative.

Alright, let’s start with a disappointing downside. We hadn’t actually looked at this software for years, and since then, it has received multiple major revisions, with many features improved, and now ones added… except the interface hasn’t been on the schedule to be refreshed during that time.

The look of the software felt old then, and it really does feel antiquated now, with commands placed at the top, but displayed on multiple layers which you can’t collapse so the entire system takes up much too much of your valuable real estate. Still, if they haven’t changed it by now, it must work for them, so it is what it is.

When you launch the software, you’re presented with a welcome screen from which you can launch the ‘Start Wizard’ (you can also find that command in the ‘Building’ menu). This feature helps you design the basics of a house quickly by doing a lot of the initial work for you. You even get to switch between imperial and metric measurements - even though the antiquated imperial is selected by default.

The Wizard creates the basic shape of your building, along with the number of floors you need, and the type of roof you require. Anything else (doors, windows, internal walls, etc), is left for a later stage. When you’re done with the Wizard, you’re left to your own devices in the main interface.

Ashampoo Home Design 9: Interface

Ashampoo Home Design 9 during our review

The interface looks good at first glance, but its menu bar takes up way too much room, and the 2D and 3D windows must fight for what’s left of the available space (Image credit: Ashampoo)
  • The interface feels needlessly convoluted and unnecessarily cramped. I might’ve been peak design 10 or more years ago, but we should’ve all moved on since.

The main interface feels as cumbersome as the software’s overly large menu system, and this is primarily due to its window management system. You have the ability to see your project both as a 2D top-down plan, and a 3D virtual reality environment. Those two are presented as floating windows… except not really.

Those windows are actually restrained within the confines on the remaining interface. It feels surprisingly frustrating, as you’re constantly battling for space between these two views, both of which are essential when designing with Home Design. You end up with them being overlapping, or squished together side by side. It’s not really ideal, especially if you work on a large project. Why couldn’t they be dockable for instance, with an easy way to switch between the two?

But again, it’s been like this for years, so it feels there’s little point in complaining about it again, and we just have to resign ourselves to constantly having to move and resize windows as we work - not ideal.

Ashampoo Home Design 9: Home Design

Ashampoo Home Design 9 during our review

You have a good number of roof options, all straight from the Wizard tool (Image credit: Ashampoo)
  • Many options, numerous customisation possibilities, a lot of versatility. All that is good. But it’s the way you get to do all this, which feels overly cumbersome, and that’s a real shame.

On the plus side, the experience of navigating through your project and building your home felt much better and more fluid than we remembered. It’s easy to add walls, windows, doors, and any other objects to your project, but everything feels like it takes far longer to do things with Home Design than it does with competing products. For instance, resizing a door and changing its position can be done in just a click and drag… elsewhere. Here you need to click on a button to reveal a floating window with a numerical field which you need to adjust, and hit the ‘Return’ key to see the effect of your change, which means you’re likely forced to repeat the process if you’re not happy with that outcome. It works of course, but it feels convoluted.

Despite this, you do have a ton of options at your disposal, such as different types of walls, various windows, doors and roofs, and of course a plethora of furniture. Take windows for instance, double-click on one to reveal all of its parameters, including various ways for it to open, how it looks on the 2D plan, the thickness of the window sill, and more. You have access to a huge amount of information and customisation. It’s just all very ‘change values in a field’ rather than the more ‘do it all through various mouse gestures’ we’ve grown accustomed to in recent years.

Ashampoo Home Design 9 during our review

Every item used to decorate your project can be previewed in its own separate window, but if you want to customise it, you’ll have to do it the old fashioned way: by clicking on fields (Image credit: Ashampoo)

The catalog of available items used to populate and decorate your project is… alright. You get to drill through a series of icons until you find the object you’re looking for. Puzzlingly enough, we couldn’t find a search field to help us get to a particular category or type of object faster, which was… quaint. However you can double-click on any of them to see a large preview of the 3D object you’re interested in, and to add it to your project, just drag and drop it.

It is possible to resize objects of course, but don’t expect it to be a simple click and drag matter. Instead you need to double-click on it to review its changeable parameters located in various editable fields, just like for the window example we mentioned earlier.

Yes Home Design has improved, but it seems its developers don’t believe in keeping up with the competition. Yes it is very powerful, and incredibly affordable which are very big pluses, but its way of working lead to frustration for us. Which is a shame. Or maybe it’s just that we’ve been too spoilt with far easier ways of doing the same thing offered by its competition.

All three of these search platforms utilize data from public records. With BeenVerified, you can conduct an informal background check on a new acquaintance or look up an old friend. The platform allows you to search using various data points, including name, address, phone number, vehicle details, and more. They provide access to billions of records and claim to have assisted over a million customers.

In our BeenVerified review, we will take a closer look at the features offered by this people search tool and help you determine whether it is worth the investment.

BeenVerified: plans and pricing

BeenVerified does not allow users to purchase a report for a single individual, a pricing model many might prefer. Instead, users are required to sign up for a subscription. The subscription costs $36.89 monthly if paid monthly or $71.94 for three months, which breaks down to $23.98 monthly. When we tried to find the pricing details online, we found that the information was not very transparent, as users must complete the entire search process to see the price. This frustratingly involves several screens and a significant time commitment.

Major credit cards, including Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover, can be used for payments. PayPal is also accepted. Payments can be processed via iTunes or Google Play if you purchase a subscription through the app.

It's important to note that canceling your BeenVerified subscription can be pretty challenging. There is no straightforward way to do this from within your account. Instead, you need to call the company’s support line or send an email to turn off auto-renewal. Additionally, ensure you request the cancellation before your next billing cycle to avoid being charged.

Features

BeenVerified: features

BeenVerified is a comprehensive background check and public records search service that provides users with an extensive array of features designed to facilitate in-depth information gathering. Among its key offerings are people search, reverse phone lookup, email lookup, address lookup, and property search.

The people search feature allows users to locate individuals by name, revealing essential information such as contact details, social media accounts, and past addresses. The reverse phone lookup tool enables users to identify the owner of a phone number, which can be particularly useful for handling unknown calls or verifying strangers' identities. Similarly, the email lookup function helps track the ownership of email addresses, providing insights into a person's digital presence.

Address lookup allows for a thorough investigation of a property’s history, including past owners and transaction details, and can be particularly beneficial for potential homebuyers or real estate professionals. The property search feature offers additional layers of detail, including property valuations, tax information, and more.

Beyond these search features, BeenVerified includes a monitoring service that actively tracks changes in a person's report. This means users can receive alerts when updates occur, such as changes to contact information or new public records, thus promoting ongoing awareness and safety.

BeenVerified: interface and in use

Getting started with BeenVerified is a relatively straightforward process. Users can choose from various search types, such as background checks, people searches, or reverse phone lookups. After selecting the desired search category, you enter your information about the individual, such as their name or phone number, to initiate a comprehensive database search. Throughout this process, BeenVerified may prompt you with additional questions to refine your search results. These follow-up questions often pertain to the person's location, age, middle name, or known relatives, which can help narrow the options and provide more accurate results. If you don't have answers to these specific questions, you can easily skip them, which may result in broader search outcomes.

Unfortunately, our experience with the search process didn't go as smoothly as anticipated. During our tests, several searches were initiated but stalled indefinitely—the progress bar ceased its movement for over 30 minutes, and we were left waiting without any option to view a report. This lack of responsiveness can frustrate users who expect timely results. On the other hand, some searches were completed successfully, but we encountered a significant drawback: access to the search results requires a paid subscription. This means that users could invest money only to discover that there isn’t a report available for the individual they were initially interested in, leading to potential disappointment.

BeenVerified review

You must sign up for a BeenVerified subscription before you can see matches to your search (Image credit: BeenVerified)

Moreover, the quality of the information in BeenVerified’s reports appears highly inconsistent. While some reports provided a wealth of detail, including complete criminal records and contact information, others were alarmingly sparse, lacking critical data that users might rely on. It’s particularly troubling that users cannot preview the data fields in a report before committing to the paid subscription. This absence of transparency adds an extra layer of frustration for users looking for specific information and may feel hesitant to invest without knowing what they might receive in return. Overall, while BeenVerified offers a convenient service, the user experience can vary significantly, and there are essential considerations to remember before proceeding with a subscription.

BeenVerified review

Support

BeenVerified offers customer support through various channels to assist users with their needs. You can reach their customer service team by phone at +1 888-579-5910, or you can email them at support@beenverified.com. They also have a contact form on their website that you can fill out. If you prefer live chat, they have that option available on their website as well. BeenVerified aims to provide comprehensive support to ensure a positive user experience.

Security

BeenVerified only shares information that is available in public records, so the company doesn’t put a huge amount of effort into security. That said, your account is secured with HTTPS and 128-bit encryption.

BeenVerified review

You can easily opt out of having your data included in BeenVerified’s database (Image credit: BeenVerified)

If you’re looking to opt out of having your data included in BeenVerified’s records, you can also do that easily. Just search to find your record, and BeenVerified will remove it within 24 hours of your request.

BeenVerified: the competition

BeenVerified competes against two of Intelius’ other people search finders, US Search and Instant Checkmate. All three search public records but they differ slightly.

US Search offers a cheaper monthly subscription and enables you to view search results before you run into a paywall. Also, you can pay for a single search, rather than having to take a monthly subscription to see a result. However, the information in the reports is often inaccurate, so we wouldn’t trust this service for running even basic background checks.

Instant Checkmate charges the same price as BeenVerified and offers far more information in its reports, including data about weapons licenses, vehicles, and traffic incidents. Instant Checkmate can be very frustrating to use since it entails clicking through numerous pop-ups. But thanks to the added report details, it offers a better bang for your buck than BeenVerified.

BeenVerified: final verdict

BeenVerified is a practical people search tool that offers a wide range of search methods, making it a versatile option for anyone needing to track down information about individuals. One of its standout features is the ability to search using various data points, such as vehicle identification numbers (VINs) or social media handles. This functionality is handy, as many competing platforms do not support searches based on these specific types of information, potentially saving users time and effort.

However, there are notable downsides to using BeenVerified. One is that users must sign up for a subscription before accessing their search results. This lack of transparency can be frustrating, as potential subscribers cannot preview the type of information they'll receive, making it difficult to determine whether the service will meet their needs.

Moreover, the quality of the reports generated by BeenVerified is inconsistent. While some users might find the information helpful, others may discover that the reports lack depth and detail. This inconsistency means that what you pay for may not always reflect the quality of information you receive, leading to a perception that the service is overpriced, given its value.

Overall, while BeenVerified offers some unique search capabilities that may appeal to specific users, the subscription requirement and the uneven quality of reports make it less attractive than other services in the market.

We've also highlighted the best background check services for individuals.

Chief Architect Home Designer Suite 2025 review

There are many reasons why you’d want to explore architectural software. The most obvious one, is because you’re a builder and need software to plan your next project.

But in my experience, even some of the best architecture software is aimed at the more casual designer. The ones who have fun visualising their existing home, with new furniture, or perhaps planning with a new extension.

Although Home Designer Suite can easily deal with the latter, despite being the cheapest in Chief Architect’s range, it’s clearly more aimed for the former, and best of all, it’s available for both Mac and Windows. How does it compare to the best interior design software (and even the best landscaping software)? I tested out the latest version to find out.

Chief Architect Home Designer Suite 2025: Pricing and plans

  • Compared to its most expensive alternatives, the Home Designer Suite is affordable software, and the tools it offers are quite extensive, but if you're still unsure, download the trial version

Home Designer comes in three flavours, Suite, Architectural and Pro. The prices for the two higher end models can feel pretty steep, with Architectural clocking in at $249, while Pro is almost eye watering at $595 (although that one also has a rental option for $59 a month).

By contrast, at $129, Suite feels much more affordable. But don't be lured into thinking a cheaper versions means fewer available tools: the standard set which is available across the range, is quite extensive, and includes features such as smart cabinets (objects know where they are in relation to the walls and to each other, and automatically face the right way as you add them), and the automation of building walls, roofs, stairs, floors, and even external landscaping, including customised elevation and vegetation. Various 3D views and CAD tools are also part and parcel of even the cheapest version.

If you’re looking for more custom options, such as specific wall types, custom backsplashes and countertops, and features such as curved decks, then Architectural will be better suited to you, and if you need printable construction document layout sheets, a master list material, pricing management tool, and advanced customisation, then Pro would be the only way to go. But if your needs are more, shall we say, modest, you’ll find Suite to be incredibly capable. Even better, Chief Architect has a free trial of Suite, which you can get by handing over your email address.

Chief Architect Home Designer Suite 2025: Interface

The default interface is designed to help you create a home quickly and with precision (Image credit: Chief Architect)
  • The designers have managed to cram all the tools you’d need in a small interface. It can make it a bit daunting at first, but once you get used to it, you’ll be flying - or rather, building…

Looking at the latest version of Home Designer Suite, you’ll be hard pressed to notice what's different this time. As before, your screen is divided into multiple sections, the largest part of which is dedicated to your design, with all the tools you need crammed in a sidebar to the left, rows of icons at the top, and a library on the right. It’s not an unfair assessment to state that if you’re new to design software, you could easily feel intimidated, but not only will you be able to find your way around pretty quickly, Chief Architect also offers a series of tutorial videos to help you hit the ground running.

Home Designer was made to hide the complexities of what you’re building, helping you focus on the fun part: creating. Walls are created by clicking and dragging, or by clicking on an existing wall’s dimensions to fine tune its length, or by dragging said wall to another position. If you add another wall close to an existing one, Home Designer is clever enough to seamlessly join them together. The beauty here, aside from the nearly effortless design process, is that a list of all the needed materials, although mostly hidden from you, is available to let you know how much to order, be it bricks, insulation, felt, timber, etc.

Not only that, once you've completed the walls for your house, the software automatically adds a basic roof, framing and foundations for you. If this feels like too much hand-holding, rest assured you remain fully in control over the entire design process: click on an item to select it, and drag its edges to resize it, or double-click on it to open a new window containing the chosen object’s changeable parameters, which you're obviously free to alter.

  • Score: 4/5

Chief Architect Home Designer Suite 2025: Tools

Chief Architect Home Designer Suite 2025 during our review

A 3D-like view helps you navigate through your design, and carry on customizing it (Image credit: Chief Architect)
  • You have a vast array of tools and views to work with, which allow you to design an entire house, both inside and out, with surprising ease

By default, you’re working in a top-down view, just as if you were designing blueprints, although whichever view you choose, even a 3D one, you’ll still be able to work on your design, and add and amend any object you bring to it. You’re also able to label parts of your creation, making it easy to see where everything will go, and what everything is supposed to be.

Additional views include ‘Doll House’, which removes the roof and lets you get a bird’s eye view of each floor. ‘Perspective’ includes the roof along with any outdoor landscaping you’ve created. ‘Glass House’ is perhaps the oddest one: everything, and we do mean everything, is now made of glass and is therefore see through.

Now fun though it is to add walls, windows and doors, choose their materials, height, thickness, etc, if you really want to bring your design to life, you need furniture, and rest assured: on that front, Chief Architect has you covered. They have a massive library of every conceivable piece of furniture. Not all of them are available by default, but you can easily download the ones you’re looking for as and when you need then (you’ll need to set up an account, but this, along with many objects you’re able to download, is also free). Additionally, a visit to the site's gallery will also reveal a slew of extra items you can download. Every item you add is fully customisable.

One such customisation is being able to choose the material an object is made of. You get to do this with the ‘Material Painter’ tool (cheekily represented by a spray paint icon). Such decoration can be applied to absolutely anything: tea pots, pianos, windows, walls, you name it. Home Designer doesn't care: you want a wall made out of grass and bluebells? Spray away.

And speaking of grass and bluebells, designing a house from scratch and furnishing it to your liking is already pretty impressive, but Home Designer also lets you go beyond, and create the surrounding gardens. You can alter the elevation, add paths, and plants - although we did notice that unlike many of the indoor furniture we experimented with, it seems most plants come at a cost.

  • Score: 4.5/5

Fill your home with furniture, objects, specific materials, the options are almost limitless (and most are free) (Image credit: Chief Architect)
  • Aside from the Undo History panel, which is useful for any project, none of the new features are truly must-have additions, but they do add welcomed improvements to an already impressive application

All of these tools have been available for a few years now, and although version 2025 isn’t radical in terms of new features, it does bring some interesting features to the table. Some of which affect the software system-wide, such as gaining access to the 'Undo Action History’, which is very similar to how Photoshop does it, and makes it easy to go through multiple undo's in a single step.

Other improvements include being able to choose a thumbnail for a plan file, or select how often files are archived. When it comes to designing, you have more automation when building a deck for instance, corner shelves are now a thing, as are electrical connections for fixtures. It’s not earth shattering, but every tweak, every improvement, adds to an already highly impressive application.

Many software packages and services let you design the perfect house, complete with plumbing, electrics, furniture, and more. Some even go further and expand their canvas to allow you to design the surrounding landscape.

Idea Spectrum Realtime Landscaping Pro 2025 does things differently, focussing primarily on the landscape itself, and its features and quite impressive. it's easily one of the best landscape design software tools around - as long as you own a Windows PC, the only platform it supports.

  • You can download Realtime Landscaping Pro from Idea Spectrum by clicking here.

  • Far from the cheapest landscaping software out there, but at least you own it outright: no subscription deals, plus you can download a trial version to check it out

Idea Spectrum deserves praise for not treating their software as a service they can let out. Instead, you need to purchase Realtime Landscaping Pro outright - the old fashioned way - for $279. This is quite refreshing in this day and age. Yes, you have to pay more upfront, but that’s one less rental you have to deal with every month.

Additionally, you can upgrade from a previous version: Pro owners of versions 2011 to 2023 can do so for $129, whereas Plus owners from 2011 to 2025 have to pay $149 to get the latest version of Pro.

If you wish to try the software out for yourself, you can also download a free trial which limits some of the features, but will give you a good feel for what’s on offer.

Design your home in minutes thanks to the help of one of Realtime Landscaping Pro’s handy wizards (Image credit: Idea Spectrum )
  • A clean, easy to understand interface, with multiple views and handy wizards to speed up the design process

Realtime Landscaping Pro is designed for you to work in a 3D environment. Should you prefer to focus on a 2D space, Idea Spectrum also offers ‘Realtime Landscaping Photo’ as an alternative.

The interface is very standard: all your tools can be found on a sidebar to the left, with all the objects you can add being located at the top, broken down by category, such as Terrain, Water Features, Utilities, and Building (yes, you can add buildings to your design; you just can’t venture into them). The left side of the interface is your Inspector, showing all of a selected object’s changeable parameters.

Since you can’t explore the inside of the house, you’d be forgiven for thinking the options available for designing the outside might be limited. Although a lot is automated for you, you have a heck of a lot of customisation capabilities. From setting up the structure, to adding windows, guttering, lights, it’s pretty much all there. Plus you can change the types of material, their colour, the wall heights, the pitch of the roof, etc. Everything you need to make a building look great - from the outside. You also have the ability to add ‘window facades’ that make it seem like your house has an interior when looking through the windows.

There are three separate views at your disposal, all accessible via buttons, lower left of the interface: ‘Plan’ is a top-down view - selected by default; ’Perspective’, allows you to see elevation and work in a 3D environment, which we found helped us design better. The third view is called ‘Walkthrough’, and is really there for you to peruse your creation using your mouse and keyboard. As the project is rendered in high quality, there is no way to alter it in that view.

On the whole, the interface is clear, and easy to understand, giving you a large canvas in the centre of the interface to design your project. Should you feel at a loss, Idea Spectrum offers a series of online tutorials to help you familiarise yourself with what’s on offer.

In order to facilitate the design process further, Realtime Landscaping Pro comes with various wizards. One is used for creating houses, as mentioned above, but others are also available to quickly create landscapes, decks, ponds, accents and swimming pools. The concept is very simple: choose a template, place it onto your project and more often than not, you’re done. These templates are fully customisable of course, to help them blend in more perfectly with your landscape.

  • An unbelievable inventory of plants which you can customise, choose their size, and set their look. You also have control over the time of day, and season. Your customisation options are as impressive as the number of plants available

Software designed to recreate an outdoor environment should be well stocked when it comes to flora, and this is exactly what Realtime Landscaping Pro offers. You have at your disposal over 6,000 plants, subdivided by category such as Annuals, Succulent, Tropical, etc, to make it easier to find what you’re after. But with so many to choose from, you’ll be grateful for that handy search field as well!

But that’s not all: you get to choose plants ideal for the geographical location you’re designing in - or not - the choice is completely up to you, as you add trees and shrubs that can look great together, but might not survive in the real world. You also get to choose each plant’s age, which mostly just alters their height, as well as the season you’re working in. This is set for your overall design, but you can also supersede that choice for each plant individually if you’re looking for an unusual and striking look, such as having plants displaying their spring appearance, next to others in the fall. Essentially, you can be as realistic and accurate as you please, or as fanciful as you desire.

This level of control extends to the weather, time of day, season, and even the phase of the moon. All of this is available through the ‘Settings’ menu.

You’ll find that each category has a ‘Currently Used’ section, which allows you to reuse objects currently in your project, elsewhere. This only works on your current project though. Should you wish to use the same plants in multiple projects, that’s where the ‘Favourites’ section comes in, making it easy to locate items once, and use them again and again in future works.

  • You also have a large list of materials, objects and people to further refine your design, and bring your creation to life with a few fun animations

Plants are but the start of your designing journey. Realtime Landscaping Pro also contains a generous library of 3D objects, from lawn furniture, to cars, as well as a wealth of materials you can use for your walls, driveways, and more.

But what we particularly enjoyed was how you can bring your design to life through animation. Water can shimmer, and fountains flow, for instance. But people - and even animals - can be animated as well. Some can walk, others jog, and a few even swim. Set a path for them to follow and they’ll repeat their action on a loop. Even those sitting or lying around will have some kind of animation set for them, like a head tilt, or a hand movement. All of these help your creation come to life when exploring it in Walkthrough.

Speaking of Walkthrough, you’re able to create movies meandering through your project, although you don’t actually control the movement through your keyboard and mouse, but rather by setting a path for the camera to follow. You can even connect it to an Oculus Rift.

As it stands, this software is very versatile with a wealth of features. It’s simple enough for casual users to have fun with, yet versatile enough for professional use, creating your dream garden, virtually, complete with seasons, and fun animations.

1Password Review: Pros & Cons, Features, Ratings, Pricing and more
8:02 am |

Author: admin | Category: Computers Gadgets Pro Security | Comments: Off

Using a password manager is crucial if you want to protect your important information and ensure that you’re covered if you forget one of those all-important codes. If you’re looking for the best password manager, consider 1Password. This app has a strong business pedigree, with companies like IBM, GitLab, and Slack trusting the software to keep passwords secure and consistent. With customers like that, it’s undeniably a top option for your family or organization.

Like any technology solution, 1Password has its mix of advantages and disadvantages. In this blog post, we'll explore the pros and cons of using 1Password to help you decide if it's the right password manager.

One of 1Password’s most significant advantages is its strong focus on security. It utilizes end-to-end encryption, meaning your data is encrypted before it leaves your device and can only be decrypted with your Master Password, which 1Password does not store or have access to. This approach minimizes the risk of data breaches and unauthorized access.

1Password boasts a sleek and intuitive interface that simplifies password management whether using the desktop app, browser extension, or mobile app, navigating through your data and accessing your passwords is straightforward and hassle-free.

With the increasing importance of two-factor authentication (2FA), 1Password's ability to generate and store one-time passwords (OTPs) is a significant plus. This feature enhances security and consolidates your login and 2FA data in one spot.

Another notable advantage of 1Password is the ability to securely share passwords and sensitive information with family members or team members. Depending on your subscription plan, you can control who can access specific items, ensuring that sensitive data is only shared with authorized individuals.

1Password supports various devices and platforms, including Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, and Linux. It also offers extensions for popular web browsers, ensuring you can access your passwords no matter where or what device you're using.

Unlike some competitors offering a free version, 1Password operates on a subscription model. While there is a 14-day free trial, long-term use requires a subscription. This ongoing cost may be a drawback for users who prefer a one-time purchase or a free solution.

For users new to password managers, the array of features and settings with 1Password can be overwhelming at first. While user-friendly, there's a learning curve to utilize all its functionalities efficiently.

While 1Password's free trial allows users to explore its features, it could be more robust in functionality compared to the full version. This limitation might not provide a comprehensive user experience assessing the tool's capabilities.

For the highly security-conscious, storing sensitive information in the cloud (even with solid encryption) might be a concern due to the theoretical risks of cloud breaches. Although 1Password's security is top-notch, the very nature of cloud storage can be a deal-breaker for some.

Certain features of 1Password, such as accessing your password vault from a new device, require an internet connection. While you can view and use stored passwords offline, initial setup and synchronization across devices need the internet.

We’ve evaluated 1Password’s family and business plans to see if this app is worth using – or if you should seek out a competitor instead. And if you want to explore those alternatives, take a look at our roundup of the best business password managers

1Password pricing

1Password: Plans and pricing

1Password offers different plans tailored to fit individual and business needs. Let's take a closer look:

For Individuals and Families

*  Individual Plan (from $2.99 per month): Designed for one person, this plan includes access to all devices, protection for your data, and around-the-clock email support.

*  Family Plan ($4.99 per month for up to five): This plan is ideal for household use. It has all the features of the individual plan but allows you to share passwords, credit cards, secure notes, and more with family members.

For Teams and Businesses

*  Teams Plan ($20 per month for up to 10 users): Built for collaboration, this plan provides features that help manage team access to shared vaults, with admin controls and secure document storage.

*  Business Plan ($8 per user per month): Tailored for larger organizations, the business plan includes everything from the Teams plan and additional advanced tools for security audits, custom roles, and more.

1Password may also offer unique plans, typically discounted, targeted at specific users, such as students, educators, or non-profit organizations.

1Password: Setup

As a leading password manager that simplifies password management while bolstering security, setting up 1Password in a work environment is a strategic move towards enhancing your company's digital security posture. In this guide, we'll walk you through every step of the process.t

Before diving into the setup, it's crucial to understand why 1Password is an asset for any organization. It goes beyond storing passwords - 1Password can manage secure notes, documents, and credentials, ensuring that all sensitive information is kept within a tamper-proof digital vault. Additionally, it enhances productivity by streamlining the login process for various work tools and platforms, reducing the time employees spend managing their passwords.

Step 1: Sign Up and Create Your Account

Begin by visiting the 1Password website and signing up for the plan that best suits your organization's needs. During this process, you'll create an account that will serve as the main administrative hub for managing your team or business.

Step 2: Configure Your Vault

Upon setting up your account, the next step is to configure your vaults. Vaults are secure containers where items like passwords, notes, and documents are stored. You can create multiple vaults for different departments or projects to keep your organization's data organized and accessible to the right people.

Step 3: Adding Users and Groups

After your vaults are configured, you'll need to add your team members. This can be done individually or in bulk through an invitation link or email. Additionally, consider setting up groups for easier management, allowing you to assign vault access to entire teams rather than individual users manually.

Step 4: Establish Security Policies

One of the key benefits of 1Password is the ability to customize security policies. This includes enforcing Two-Factor Authentication (2FA), setting password strength requirements, and configuring other security settings tailored to your organization's security guidelines.

Step 5: Training and Support

With your 1Password setup complete, the final and crucial step is training your team. Ensure that everyone understands how to use 1Password effectively, including storing and managing passwords, using the browser extension, and accessing their vaults. Take advantage of the resources and support provided by 1Password for a smooth transition.

1Password interface

1Password: Interface and performance

1Password provides convenient access on virtually all devices. Along with mobile apps for iOS and Android, the platform also provides desktop apps for macOS, Windows, and Linux, plus a command-line tool and extensions for popular browsers including Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Brave, and Safari. There are also some more quirky options, like Apple Watch support.

It’s a very intuitive app. On the left-hand side, there’s a navigation column that allows users to access their private or shared vaults, tutorials, and their popular passwords. Here you’ll also find the Watchtower, which keeps track of security breaches and lets you know if your details have been compromised. In the main window, you can see all your passwords, messages or alerts, and the search box – which is extremely fast.

Adding new passwords is simple and comprehensive. You’re able to choose from more than two dozen security categories – from straightforward login and credit card details to medical records and passports – and each category collects different kinds of relevant information. It makes creating passwords easier – and speeds up categorization, too.

This is a highly responsive app, too, with changes on one device showing up on other devices almost instantaneously. We’re really fond of the small highlights than run across the top of the UI and throughout the experience, such as Wi-Fi passwords, medical records, identity information, and payment details.

Logging in online is a little more of a task than it is with other password managers. You still use your master password to get in, but you also need to authorize it by copying and pasting a so-called secret key to verify it’s you. We feel this could be handled a little easier, even if by manner of notification to the apps that are already signed in. Dashlane does something similar, and emails a one-time code to the account holder too, just for that extra layer of protection.

1Password security

1Password: Security

1Password uses a wide range of tools to keep your information as secure as possible. Accounts are locked by a master password, which is never shared with 1Password or any third parties. Beyond that, you’ve got your Emergency Kit, which includes a secure key you’ll need to use when logging in.

1Password provides two-factor authentication with Authy and Microsoft Authenticator, and it comes with security breath alerts, protection against keyloggers, and AES 256-bit encryption. Your passwords are also protected with Secure Remote Password (SRP), which adds another layer of credential authentication.

1Password Business: Team and Admin Features

1Password for Business pitches itself as a robust enterprise password management platform that’s designed to meet the needs of businesses of all sizes. It offers a comprehensive set of features that help facilitate secure credential management, while streamlining administrative tasks, and can also integrate with your existing IT infrastructure.

Its shared vault system is particularly useful for use in a business setting. In the context of a password manager, think of a vault as a secure container that stores login credentials, as well as other secure information like credit card details.

The vaults in 1Password Business provide granular access control with over a dozen distinct permissions, which allow you as admins to control who can view, edit, copy, share, or export items within the vaults.

You can also choose which apps can be used to access this vault. For instance, if you aren’t using 1Password Business’ developer features, you can disable access to the vaults from the CLI tool. Similarly, if you only want your users to access the vault through the browser extensions, and the Android and iOS apps, you can disable access through its Windows, macOS, and Linux apps.

The platform also has an interesting Travel Mode feature that allows your users to temporarily remove access to all but certain vaults that have been marked as Safe for Travel. This helps protect sensitive business credentials and data from potential exposure during travel, especially during border inspections or other security checks.

Like all its peers, you can also use 1Password Business to create custom groups based on the departments, or projects in your organization. You can then assign specific permissions and responsibilities to these groups, such as the ability to invite, and remove people, create vaults, recover accounts, and more, facilitating efficient delegation and management.

Setting permissions at the group level allows for scalable permissioning. You can then assign vault access once to the group instead of each user.

In addition to regular users, 1Password Business also has a concept of guest users. These are individuals who are granted limited access to specific shared vaults. They don't have their own private vault, nor can they access all the shared vaults within the organization. Instead they can only access a designated vault that you’ve earmarked for them. A guest user can be a freelancer, a contractor, or anyone who needs limited access to specific information, like project-related passwords or client-specific details.

The platform also lets you define various security policies. The authentication policy helps create rules to manage how your users authenticate with, and log into the platform. You can use these to require strong master passwords, and select a two-factor authentication (2FA) mechanism. 1Password Business supports multiple 2FA options including the use of an authenticator app, security keys, and the Duo authentication service. You can also choose to make 2FA mandatory for all users.

Then there are sharing and permissions policies, where you create rules for features like credentials sharing. For instance, if you don’t want your users to share items with anyone, you can restrict them to only share items with someone who uses an email from an approved domain. You can also define the expiration settings for the shares, and more.

Finally, there are the firewall policies that you can use to restrict access to the platform, based on country, continent, or IP address.

1Password Business backs it all up with extensive logging and reporting mechanisms that provides a comprehensive trail of all actions within the 1Password account, including who accessed or modified what items and when.

1Password Business: Integrations and Compatibility

Your users can access their credentials from various devices and platforms as 1Password offers apps for all the popular desktop and mobile operating systems including Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android, along with browser extensions for Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge.

1Password Business also integrates with all the major identity providers (IdPs) such as Google Workspace, Microsoft Entra ID, Okta, OneLogin, JumpCloud, and Rippling through the SCIM Bridge. This helps streamline user management as it allows for automated provisioning and deprovisioning of users and groups.

The platform also integrates with leading Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) tools such as Splunk, Sentinel, Elastic, Sumo Logic, Panther, and several others. Thanks to this, the platform can stream activity to the SIEM tools for more detailed auditing and security analysis.

1Password Business also offers a robust set of developer tools that can help integrate secret management into various stages of the software development lifecycle. For instance, developers can generate, import, and store their SSH keys directly within 1Password, and also help it integrate with Git workflows.

Then there’s the 1Password CLI that allows developers to securely access items stored in 1Password directly from the terminal. 1Password Business can also integrate with popular CI/CD platforms like GitHub Actions, CircleCI, and Jenkins, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Kubernetes, and Terraform.

1Password also provides an open source Software Development Kits (SDKs) for popular programming languages like Python, and JavaScript, and also offers an extension for the Visual Studio Code IDE.

1Password Business: Ease of Use and Deployment

Deploying 1Password Business is relatively straightforward. The initial setup, as outlined earlier, can be completed quickly, and the user onboarding process is intuitive enough.

From an administrative standpoint, the interface is clean and neatly arranged. Most of the regular admin tasks can be completed without too much mucking about the interface, and don’t require extensive technical knowledge. That said, you’ll need to have IT chops to tackle more advanced tasks like IdP integration.

1Password Business’s web-based admin interface provides an overview of user activity, vault access, security insights, and policy compliance. There’s also an activity log that can help you track events like vault access, user logins, sharing activities, policy changes, and more. All activity is timestamped, and the log can be easily filtered.

The platform also has various reports, like breach report, and business watchtower. After you’ve verified the domain controlled by your company, the breach report will flag accounts, information, and employees that have been exposed in data breaches. Then there’s the business watchtower report that identifies security issues like weak passwords, across all your vaults.

Besides these, you also get detailed usage reports, adoption reports, team reports, devices reports, and more. Then there’s the insights dashboard that offers analytics on data breaches, password health, and team usage.

All things considered, the 1Password Business admin interface strikes a good balance between power and simplicity, and works well for all sized organizations.

1Password: Support

With 1Password, you’ll have access to 24/7 support via email. The website states that Business users get VIP support, but it doesn’t explain the difference between regular and VIP—just that help is available “whenever you need it.” As mentioned above, Enterprise subscriptions come with a dedicated account manager and onboard engineer.

The 1Password site also provides helpful articles covering a variety of support topics. These are a great place to start if you run into technical issues or want to learn more about the service’s features. Users can also access security white papers if they’d like a deeper dive into how the service works.

1Password: The competition

Lastpass, one of the most popular password managers, comes with some notable pros and cons compared to 1Password. Unlike 1Password, Lastpass offers a surprisingly robust free plan that enables users to store and share passwords across all their devices.

Furthermore, Lastpass Emergency makes it easy to configure a digital will that automatically transfers your information in case of an emergency or death. The only way to set this process up on 1Password is to pay for a family or team plan and create multiple admins or organizers. That said, Lastpass and 1Password come with many of the same features, and their pricing is mostly similar aside from the Lastpass free plan.

If you’re after more than a password manager, Dashlane and Proton Pass are among the handful that offer VPN connections for certain plans, all in a bid to keep your identity protected.

1Password: Final verdict

1Password offers everything individuals and businesses need to store and share passwords and other sensitive pieces of information. The spread of pricing options means it’s a low-cost way to keep your data safe.

In addition to mobile apps, the service is also compatible with macOS, Windows, and Linux along with several browsers. Its flexibility, affordability, and ease of use make it a great option for companies and home users.

We've listed the best password recovery software.

What to look for in a password manager

In today's world, where digital security breaches are not just common but expected, the importance of robust password management cannot be overstated. Password managers have become essential tools for individuals and businesses striving to secure their digital realms. However, with many market options, it can be challenging to know what features to prioritize when selecting a password manager. Here's a curated checklist to guide your choice.

Non-Negotiable Features

Encryption is the foundation of a password manager's security. Choose a service offering strong encryption, such as 256-bit encryption — the standard governments and militaries use worldwide. This encryption level ensures that even if data gets intercepted, it remains indecipherable without the unique key.

A zero-knowledge protocol means the service provider does not know your data. Your passwords and sensitive information are encrypted locally on your device before syncing with the server. Ensure your chosen password manager offers end-to-end encryption, with decryption only possible on your device.

Two-factor authentication (2FA)

Two-factor authentication adds an extra layer of security by requiring a second form of verification beyond just the master password. This could be a biometric scan, a security key, or a code generated by an authenticator app. A password manager that supports 2FA significantly enhances your protection against unauthorized access.

Important Usability Features

Your digital life isn't confined to one device, so your password manager shouldn't be either. Cross-platform compatibility ensures you can access your passwords on a PC, Mac, Android, or iOS device. Check for seamless integration with various operating systems and browsers for a smooth experience.

One of the main benefits of a password manager is convenience. Look for features like autofill and auto-login that save time and prevent the risk of typing errors. This facilitates a smoother and faster login process without compromising security.

Strong, unique passwords are essential for secure accounts. A built-in password generator that can create complex passwords enhances security by eliminating the human tendency to reuse passwords or choose easy-to-guess options.

Additional Considerations

A simple, intuitive interface makes a big difference, especially for teams or individuals less familiar with tech. Ease of use encourages adoption and regular use, which is critical for maintaining security practices.

Consider recovering access to your account in case of a forgotten master password. Options like account recovery using a trusted device or emergency access for trusted contacts can be life-saving without compromising the security of your data.

Evaluate the cost relative to the features offered. Many password managers offer a basic level of service for free, with premium features available for a fee. Consider what features are must-haves for you and whether the cost of a premium plan justifies its benefits.

Choosing the right password manager is a balancing act between security features and usability. The ideal tool secures your digital life from threats while seamlessly integrating into your daily routine. You can select a password manager that protects your information and enhances your online experience by focusing on solid encryption, zero-knowledge architecture, and essential usability features. Remember, in the quest for digital security, your password manager becomes your closest ally.

Freshsales core capabilities

Freshsales offers a comprehensive set of tools that cover all the essential aspects of customer relationship management. Its centralized database makes it easy to store, organize, and access customer data from a single place. Meanwhile, the ability to enrich contact profiles with additional information from social media and other public sources is a valuable time-saver.

The platform provides a visual sales pipeline that helps me track the progress of each deal from initial contact to closure. I can easily create and assign tasks, set reminders, and collaborate with my team to nurture leads effectively. I can also customize the deal stages, pipelines, and contact fields to match my specific sales process. The new AI-powered lead scoring is particularly useful, helping to prioritize the most promising opportunities based on their likelihood to convert.

When it comes to sales forecasting and pipeline management, Freshsales offers customizable sales reports and dashboards that provide real-time insights into key metrics such as revenue, win rates, and sales cycle length. I can easily filter and segment data to identify trends, spot bottlenecks, and make data-driven decisions when optimizing my sales process. I can track everything from individual rep performance to overall team productivity and revenue growth. The visual dashboards make it easy to digest complex data and share insights with stakeholders across the organization.

For those in the field, Freshsales offers a fully-featured mobile app for iOS and Android devices, allowing me to access customer data, update deals, and communicate with my team on the go. The app also allows me to view and update contact information, log calls and emails, schedule appointments, and even access key reports and dashboards. Applications are well-designed and responsive, making it a seamless extension of the desktop experience.

Another signature selling point of Freshsales is its integration with other tools in the Freshworks ecosystem, such as Freshdesk for customer support and Freshmarketer for marketing automation. It allows me to gain a holistic view of each customer's journey and ensures that sales, marketing, and support are always on the same page. Additionally, the platform supports a wide range of third-party integrations through its open API, allowing me to connect with my favorite productivity tools to simplify my daily workflow.

Beyond these core capabilities, Freshsales offers a range of advanced features that set it apart from other CRM platforms. For example, the built-in phone system allows me to make and receive calls directly from the CRM, with automatic call logging and recording. The email integration is also top-notch, with the ability to send personalized bulk emails, track opens and clicks, and sync conversations with contact records.

What's new?

Freshsales has undergone a significant transformation in late 2025 and early 2026, moving away from passive data entry toward a more proactive, AI-driven "Assistant" model. The most notable change is the rollout of the Freddy AI Copilot, which has evolved from a simple lead-scoring tool into a comprehensive generative assistant. This new version of Freddy can now autonomously summarize sprawling email threads, draft hyper-personalized follow-up messages based on the detected sentiment of a prospect, and even suggest the "Next Best Action" for deals that have remained stagnant in the pipeline for too long. For sales managers, this shift means less time spent on manual deal reviews and more time spent on strategy, as the AI identifies at-risk opportunities before they drop off the board.

The platform's connectivity has also seen a major boost through the Unified Customer Data Hub, a 2026 initiative that bridges the gap between the sales and support departments. Freshsales users now benefit from real-time visibility into active Freshdesk support tickets and "Customer Frustration Scores" directly within the CRM contact timeline. This integration ensures that sales reps aren't making outreach calls to clients who are currently experiencing technical issues, a common point of friction in high-growth companies. Furthermore, the introduction of Advanced Multichannel Sequences allows for smarter automation; for instance, if a lead ignores an email but engages with a LinkedIn post, the CRM can automatically pivot its outreach strategy to social channels or SMS, creating a more fluid and responsive buyer journey.

Finally, the onboarding experience has been modernized with the AI-Guided Data Importer, launched in January 2026. This tool drastically reduces setup time by using machine learning to map complex custom fields and historical data from competitors like Salesforce or HubSpot with over 90% accuracy. Coupled with the new Role-Based Workspaces, which declutter the interface by showing only the tools relevant to a user's specific job - such as prospecting for SDRs or territory management for Directors - Freshsales has successfully maintained its easy-to-use reputation while adding the depth required for larger, global sales organizations.

How easy is Freshsales to use?

When it comes to user experience, Freshsales features a clean and modern layout that’s very easy to get familiar with. Its dashboard provides a clear overview of key metrics, upcoming tasks, and recent activities, allowing me to quickly access information without feeling overwhelmed. The main menu is well-organized and easy to navigate, with clear labels and icons for each section of the platform.

Screenshot of freshsales CRM

I can quickly access my contacts, deals, reports, and settings without having to hunt through multiple submenus or click through endless screens. The platform also allows me to tailor the interface to my specific needs and preferences, from rearranging widgets on the dashboard to creating custom fields for contacts and deals. The drag-and-drop functionality for managing deals and pipelines is particularly user-friendly, enabling me to quickly update the status of my sales opportunities with just a few clicks.

When it comes to the onboarding curve, Freshsales offers a wealth of resources to help new users get up to speed quickly. The comprehensive knowledge base includes detailed articles, video tutorials, and step-by-step guides covering every aspect of the platform. Based on my experience with other CRM tools like HubSpot and Salesforce, I’d say that Freshsales stands out for its simplicity without compromising on the core capabilities that sales teams need for their day-to-day.

In addition to the self-service knowledge base, Freshsales also provides a dedicated onboarding program for new users to the platform. This includes a series of interactive walkthroughs that guide you through the key features and functions, as well as best practices for setting up your account and importing data.

Freshsales also offers a range of time-saving features and shortcuts that further enhance its usability. For example, the global search function allows me to quickly find any record or file within the platform, while the bulk editing tools enable me to update multiple records at once. These small but impactful features make a big difference when you have to use the platform everyday.

While Freshsales is generally very user-friendly, I did encounter a few minor challenges. For example, the page timeout feature can be a bit annoying, as it requires you to refresh the page if you need to stay on it for an extended period. But overall, the combination of an intuitive interface, extensive customization options, comprehensive onboarding resources, and time-saving features leave me with a positive impression of the platform’s user experience. I particularly appreciate the inclusion of a proper onboarding program, something that’s sadly missing from a lot of other CRMs.

Freshsales integrations

screenshot of freshsales integrations

In my experience with Freshsales, I've found its integration capabilities to be a mixed bag. While the platform integrates seamlessly with other products in the Freshworks suite, such as Freshdesk for customer support and Freshchat for live chat, the number of native integrations with third-party applications is somewhat limited compared to other solutions.

Freshsales offers around 30 pre-built integrations with popular business tools, including Google Calendar, Mailchimp, Twilio, Quickbooks, Xero, and Trello. These integrations allow for streamlined data synchronization and workflow automation, saving time and reducing manual effort. For example, the Google Calendar integration enables me to sync my Freshsales appointments and tasks with my Google Calendar, ensuring I never miss an important meeting or deadline.

However, when compared to other CRM platforms like Pipedrive offering 400 integrations, or HubSpot with over 1,600 third-party app integrations, Freshsales' native integration options seem relatively sparse. This limitation may be a concern for businesses that rely heavily on a wide range of tools and require seamless data flow between them.

Fortunately, Freshsales provides a robust API that allows for custom integrations and extensions. API documentation is comprehensive and well-structured, making it easier for developers to build custom integrations tailored to specific business needs. Additionally, Freshsales offers native connectors for Zapier and Make (formerly Integromat), which enable users to create automated workflows between Freshsales and hundreds of other apps without coding.

Leveraging the Freshsales API and Zapier has allowed me to connect the CRM with several crucial tools in my tech stack. For instance, when a deal is won in Freshsales, I was able to set up a Zap that automatically creates a task in Asana for the customer success team to onboard the new client. This integration helps streamline the handover process and ensures that no critical steps are missed.

While the limited number of native integrations in Freshsales may seem concerning at first glance, the platform's API and compatibility with iPaaS tools like Zapier and Make provide ample opportunities for customization and extension. With a bit of technical know-how or the help of a developer, businesses can create powerful integrations that suit their unique needs and workflows.

How good is Freshsales customer support?

Again with customer support, Freshsales CRM is a bit of a mixed bag. On one hand, Freshsales offers a variety of support channels, including phone, email, and live chat, which are available 24 hours a day, 5 days a week. However, the lack of 24/7 support that competitors such as Monday.com offer, can be a drawback for some, especially those with global operations or customers in different time zones.

However, I appreciate that Freshsales offers phone support across all subscription tiers, a welcome addition of a must-have feature that’s often missing from some competitors’ entry-level plans. Being able to speak with a support representative directly can be invaluable when facing complex issues.

In terms of self-service resources, Freshsales provides a solid foundation with its collection of case studies, how-to videos, and knowledge base articles. These materials cover a wide range of topics, from basic features to advanced workflows, and can be helpful for users looking to troubleshoot issues or learn more about the platform on their own.

Additionally, Freshsales offers an academy program with courses and certifications for admins and agents. This is a great way for users to improve their skills and demonstrate their expertise with the platform, which can lead to better adoption and more effective use of the CRM.

While its customer support is still strong enough, there are more areas where the company could improve. For example, the average first response and resolution times are not readily available, making it difficult to gauge the efficiency and effectiveness of the support team. Similarly, customer satisfaction scores are not publicly disclosed, which could leave users wondering about the quality of support they can expect.

It’s also worth noting that Freshsales’ customer support is only available in English. This may be a barrier for users in non-English speaking countries or those who prefer to communicate in their native language. Expanding support to include more languages could help Freshsales better serve its global user base.

For businesses requiring more advanced features, Freshsales offers three paid plans: Growth, Pro, and Enterprise.

The Growth plan starts at $15 per user per month (billed annually) and includes additional features like AI-powered contact scoring, sales sequences, and workflows. This plan help make Freshsales one of the best CRM of small businesses and startups looking for a cost-effective CRM solution with essential automation capabilities.

Beyond your base plan, businesses can purchase additional bot sessions, phone credits, or configure-price-quote (CPQ) licenses as needed. While this lends more flexibility to the pricing structure, overall costs can add up quickly if you aren’t careful. You should carefully review your needs and factor in the cost of necessary add-ons to make sure you aren’t overspending.

How we test

At TechRadar Pro, our review process is designed to delve into the real-life daily workflows of modern sales teams. When we evaluate a platform like Freshsales, we follow a rigorous testing framework to ensure our recommendation stands up to the pressures of a modern-day business environment:

We perform a full, clean-slate installation of the software, testing the "AI-Guided Data Importer" by feeding it messy, real-world CSV datasets and historical exports from rival CRMs to see how effectively it maps custom fields and identifies duplicates during the initial migration.

Of course, we also get to grips with one of Freshsales' key features: Freddy AI. We feed Freddy AI complex email threads and customer sentiment data to see if its "Next Best Action" suggestions and meeting summaries are actually useful or merely generic. We specifically look for hallucinations in AI-generated email drafts to ensure they remain professional and context-aware.

In addition, unique to the Freshworks ecosystem, we test the bi-directional data flow between Freshsales and Freshdesk. We simulate active customer support tickets to see if the "Frustration Scores" update in real-time on the sales rep's dashboard and if the alerts are prominent enough to prevent a poorly timed sales call.

Finally, no assessment of a modern CRM would be worth its salt without considering the mobile nature of modern marketing and sales. As such, we test the Freshsales mobile app in real-world scenarios, evaluating its offline lead-logging capabilities, the reliability of its built-in cloud telephony over 5G and Wi-Fi, and the ease of access to Freddy insights while on the move.

Freshsales review: Final verdict

Freshsales shines in its core capabilities, offering a robust set of features that cater to the needs of sales teams of all sizes. The platform's intuitive interface and customization options make it easy for users to adopt and tailor to their unique workflows.

While the number of native integrations is limited compared to some competitors, Freshsales' open API and compatibility with Zapier and Make provide ample opportunities for extensibility. Customer support is generally strong, with multiple channels available and helpful resources for self-service. However, there is room for improvement in terms of response times and language support. In any case, Freshsales offers excellent value for money, with flexible pricing plans and a generous free trial period, making it accessible to businesses of all sizes.

At the end of the day, Freshsales CRM is a powerful and user-friendly platform that offers a compelling blend of features, affordability, and scalability. While there are areas for improvement, particularly when it comes to the quality of support and range of integrations offered, the platform's strengths make it a top choice for businesses seeking a reliable and adaptable CRM.

FAQ

Is Freshsales actually free?

Yes, Freshsales offers a "Forever Free" plan for up to three users. It includes basic contact management, a built-in dialer, and 24/5 support. However, it is important to note that the free tier lacks any reporting, visual sales pipelines, or AI insights. It is best suited for solo entrepreneurs or micro-teams just starting to move away from spreadsheets.

What is the difference between Freshsales and Freshsales Suite?

Freshsales is the standalone sales CRM focused on pipelines and deal management. Freshsales Suite is an all-in-one platform that combines the sales CRM with Freshmarketer (for email campaigns and landing pages). If your team needs to manage the entire customer journey - from the first marketing click to the final sales signature - the Suite is the better value, though it comes at a higher starting price point.

Does Freddy AI cost extra?

This year, Freshworks moved Freddy AI from a built-in feature to a "Flexi-Add-on." For the advanced generative features (like email summarization and automated follow-ups), it costs $29 per user/month billed annually. The benefit of the flexi model is that you don't have to buy it for your entire company; you can purchase licenses only for the power users or high-volume reps who need it most.

Does Freshsales work offline

Yes, the Freshsales mobile app for iOS and Android supports offline functionality. You can view contacts, add notes, and create tasks without an internet connection. Once your device is back online, the app automatically syncs your changes to the cloud database.
