Last week Samsung announced its brand new Galaxy S23 series and despite the price hike, the company secured around 140,000 pre-orders in the first 24 hours in India. That's about twice the Galaxy S22 pre-orders from last year and it shows a strong demand for premium devices in the country and perhaps Samsung's pre-order deals and goodies tipped the scale in its favor. Samsung's spokesperson didn't reveal the pre-order distribution. The average selling price of a Galaxy S23 member is about INR 99,000 ($1,200), so that would make for $169 million in revenue. Samsung has recently...

Samsung increases workforce for 3nm chip production

Samsung is facing a shortage of talent for its 3nm chip production, Korean media reveals. According to the report, the Korean company is moving the workforce internally, putting teams on the R&D team for the new nodes. Due to a shortage of local specialists and workers, Samsung had stopped accepting orders for legacy 130-65nm foundry processes from domestic small and medium-sized companies specializing in semiconductor design. Samsung is not the only company facing such a problem. The high demand for modern chipsets puts competitor companies in a similar position, including TSMC,...

Realme X7 Max 5G gets Android 13-based Realme UI 4.0 stable update

Realme announced the Android 13-based Realme UI 4.0 open beta for the X7 Max 5G in December, and it seems the testing has gone smoothly since the company has announced the rollout of Realme UI 4.0's stable update for the X7 Max 5G. The stable Realme UI 4.0 is rolling with firmware version RMX3031_11.F.04, but you'll receive it on your X7 Max 5G only if it's running firmware RMX3031_11.C.16 or RMX3031_11.C.17. It's also worth mentioning that the update is rolling out to a limited number of users right now, and a broader rollout will commence by the end of February if no bugs are...

Roccat Magma Mini review: great gaming keyboard at an even better price
8:05 am |

Roccat Magma Mini: One-minute review

The Roccat Magma Mini keyboard is clearly aiming for the underserved part of the gaming market and succeeds at most of its goals. So much of the 60% keyboard is dominated by gaming keyboards with mechanical and optical switches, leaving those looking for more affordable and practical products in the dust, but that isn't the case here.

Priced at a mere $49.99 (around £41 / AU$71), this is a cheaper alternative to getting a mechanical keyboard without breaking the bank on one. Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be a plan to release this keyboard outside the UK or Australia at this time.

The Roccat Magma Mini’s keys don’t have all the bells and whistles of the more popular mechanical switches, instead electing to use the much quieter but no less satisfying to type on membrane keys. It’s a solid alternative for those who may prefer an alternative to the loud clacking of mechanical keys, especially during those late-night typing sessions.

That said, this isn’t some featureless, boring keyboard either. Roccat gave it some handy tools to enhance the typing experience, making it a great fit for both gaming and professional use. Helping with those late-night gaming or writing sessions is the gorgeous RGB lighting. The membrane keys are incredibly responsive, with the anti-ghosting feature, as well as Easy-Shift[+] technology that enables function layers. The keyboard itself is waterproof, which is a godsend for those of us who need a little drink on the side but have the coordination and grace of a bull in a fine china shop.

Other than the keys being a bit thin, which gives trouble to those with larger fingers or those with unstable hands, and the finger placement being a bit awkward and tight, the arrow keys need to be activated using the Function key. Once you get accustomed to it, hwoever, there’s little issue.

Roccat Magma Mini: Price and availability

  • How much does it cost? $49.99 (around £41 / AU$71)
  • When is it available? Only the US at the time of writing
  • Where can you get it? Through the Roccat online storefront

Currently, the Roccat Magma Mini keyboard is available in the US for $49.99 (around £41 / AU$71), which is a beyond excellent price that beats out most other 60% gaming keyboards. However, both the UK and Australia are out of luck, as this keyboard isn’t available in any other region at the time of this writing.

There is a good chance that we could see a global release for two reasons. The first is that the product received a UK Roccat blog post, and the second is that the standard-sized Roccat Magma keyboard is available in the UK at least. However, the pricing is a bit higher for that one, since its normal retail price is £49.99, which is much more than $49.99. Good thing it’s discounted right now.

Roccat Magma Mini: Design and features

  • Water and dust resistant
  • Lightweight and compact form factor

As with any other 60% keyboard, the Roccat Magma Mini has a more compact form factor that’s better suited for those with a lot less desk space. And though it only comes in black, the beautiful customizable RGB backlighting makes it pop and comes in handy during those late-night gaming or typing sessions.

It’s incredibly lightweight and, combined with the small size, makes it one of the most portable keyboards we’ve tested. Its build is quite great as well – even though it's not a solid aluminum chassis, it can still take a beating without breaking down. It’s a wired one as well, making it far more responsive than wireless keyboards. But it’s a shame that said cable isn't removable, which would help out with portability and let you mod it with a coiled one.

Something it has in common with other 60% keyboards is that in order to use the arrow keys, you need to press FN first. It's not a deal breaker, but it's certainly a more awkward choice that requires some adjustment on your part in the beginning.

One of the best features, bar none, is that it’s both water- and dust-resistant. That means that you won’t completely bust your keyboard if a bit of juice spills on it, and that dust will take much longer to accumulate on and in between the keys, which is normally a killer for keyboards.

Roccat Magma Mini: Performance

  • Fast and responsive keys
  • Easy-Shift[+] button is a great feature

Despite it being much smaller than your average gaming keyboard, we found the Roccat Magma Mini to perform just as well. The keys are exceptionally responsive, are equipped with anti-ghosting, has a polling rate of 1000Hz. When combined with the best gaming mouse, that means that even the most intense firefights are a cinch to play through.

This is in part to the membrane keys themselves, which have a fast, midway actuation point that makes them both accurate and fast-responding in the first place.

There’s also a dedicated Easy-Shift[+] button, which activates a second function layer that can be programmed to expand the capability of each keystroke. It’s an extra, and much needed, way to get even more mileage out of a smaller keyboard. It’s also a wired keyboard, which means that performance is further enhanced as signals from the key switches travel and register at higher speeds than a wireless mouse.

For those who need a cheaper gaming keyboard that takes up very little space, the Roccat Magma Mini is an excellent one to invest in. The only real downside to it is the keys being a bit too narrow, which would make for an accuracy issue for those with thicker fingers or a disability that cause hand tremors.

Samsung Galaxy Buds2 update improves charging
1:46 am |

Author: admin | Category: Mobile phones news | Comments: Off

Samsung's Galaxy Buds2 are due for another update, which has so far been rolling out in the company's home market of Korea. The new build is labeled R177XXU0AWA3, and it should make its way to other places very soon. It's a 3.06MB download, which, as usual with updates for Samsung's TWS earbuds, you get through the Galaxy Wearable app on your phone. The update improves the charging stability of the earbuds, and might also fix some unnamed bugs as they all generally tend to do. The Galaxy Buds2 have been out for a pretty long time at this point, and Samsung's event at the beginning...

Asus ZenWifi XT9 review: fast, versatile Wi-Fi 6 mesh networking system
1:41 am |

Author: admin | Category: Computers Gadgets | Comments: Off

Asus ZenWifi XT9: One-minute review

The latest addition to the range is the new Asus ZenWifi XT9 which, as the name suggests, is a follow-up to the Asus ZenWifi XT8. In truth, this Wi-Fi router is not a massive upgrade, providing tri-band Wi-Fi 6 with a top speed of 7.8Gbps, compared to 6.6Gbps for the XT8. However, this mesh Wi-Fi system has the same range of features - including free parental controls - and admirable ease of use that makes it a good option for larger homes that need fast, reliable Wi-Fi.

Not content with being one of the world’s leading PC manufacturers - with the Republic Of Gamers brand also under its wing - Asus also makes some pretty impressive networking products. Its XT8 mesh system walked off with our Editor’s Choice a couple of years ago, with the top-of-the-range ZenWifi Pro ET12 bringing the state-of-the-art Wi-Fi 6E technology to the range more recently.

So, does the Asus ZenWifi XT9 maintain the same lofty standards? Read our review of the Wi-Fi 6 router to find out more.

Asus ZenWifi XT9: Price and availability

  • How much does it cost?  $499.99 / £459.99
  • When is it available? Available now
  • Where can you get it? Available in the US and the UK
Asus ZenWifi XT9: SPECS

Wireless Connectivity: tri-band WiFi 6 (2.4GHz and 2x 5.0GHz)
Wi-Fi Speed: 7.8Gbps
Processor: quad-core,1.7GHz
Memory: 512MB
Storage: 256MB Flash
Ports: 2.5Gb WAN, 3x Gigabit Ethernet; 1x USB 3.2
Dimensions: 161 x 160x 75mm

The increased speed of the Asus ZenWifi XT9 does mean that it’s a little more expensive than its predecessor - and we also have to take Asus to task for the slightly misleading information on its web site. The web site shows a picture of a two-piece mesh system, with two identical routers, and states that prices “start at $269.99” (£256.49).

In fact, that’s the price for a single XT9 router on its own, which can work like a conventional router, covering an area of up to 2,850 sq.ft (or homes with up to four bedrooms). The two-piece mesh system that we review here actually costs $499.99 / £459.99 and is suitable for larger homes up to 5,700 sq.ft (for 6+ bedrooms).

That’s quite expensive, but still comparable to rival mesh systems that provide this level of performance, and online prices do seem to vary quite a bit, so it’s worth shopping around before buying. It also means that the older XT8 has now been reduced in price, providing a more affordable alternative that will be more than adequate for most domestic broadband services. The Asus ZenWifi XT8 is still the best option for users in Australia too, as the XT9 hasn’t yet been released in that region.

Asus ZenWifi XT9: Design

  • Smart, compact design, in black or white
  • App is very easy to use
  • Good parental controls, with no subscription

The Asus ZenWifi XT9 may be a bit pricey, but it works hard to earn its keep. Available in black or white, the two XT9 mesh routers have the same slim, upright design as the older XT8, which allows each router to house six internal antennae to boost transmission of the Wi-Fi signal. And, as mentioned, the mesh Wi-Fi system provides tri-band Wi-Fi 6 that uses 2.4GHz and two 5.0GHz frequency bands.

To make the most of that performance, the XT9 has a 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet (WAN) port for high-speed broadband connections, along with three Gigabit Ethernet ports to provide wired connections. There’s even a USB-A 3.2 port that allows you to connect a hard drive or other storage device, which can be shared with other people on your network.

Getting started is a piece of cake. The two XT9 routers are identical, but one of them has a label on the front that says - “I’m the main router, so start with me!”. There’s a QR code that lets you download the Asus Router app for iOS and Android, and a second one that prompts the app to link the two XT9 routers together, checks your Internet connection, and connects your iOS or Android device to the new network.

You do need to create a name (SSID) and password for your new Wi-Fi network, but the app allows you to create a single network that merges the 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz bands for quick and easy set-up. Or you can separate the three bands and set up three networks with their own individual passwords. That will take a little longer, but it’s a useful option if you want to dedicate one of the fast 5.0GHz bands to a device such as a gaming console or PC for maximum performance. For more advanced users, the app also allows you to open up a web browser interface that provides more detailed control over the network settings.

The app provides standard features, such as a guest network and the ability to prioritise applications such as gaming or streaming video for maximum performance. However, we were also pleased to find that it provides good parental controls, including content filters that can block unsuitable material. These filters are free of charge, too - unlike many rival routers that require a monthly subscription fee for parental controls.

Asus ZenWifi XT9: Performance

  • Fast Wi-Fi 6 performance, with good range
  • 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet for high-speed broadband connections
  • 3x Gigabit Ethernet for wired connections
Asus ZenWifi XT9: Benchmarks

Ookla Speed Test - 2.4GHz (download/upload)
Within 5ft, no obstructions: 150/150Mbps
Within 30ft, three partition walls: 150/150Mbps

Ookla Speed Test - 5.0GHz (download/upload)
Within 5ft, no obstructions: 150/150Mbps
Within 30ft, three partition walls: 150/150Mbps

20GB Steam download - 2.4GHz

20GB Steam 20GB download - 5.0GHz
Within 5ft, no obstructions: 19MB/s
Within 30ft, three partition walls: 19MB/s

The whole point of mesh systems is that they can provide fast Wi-Fi that covers your entire home.

Our normal router can provide good Wi-Fi performance for computers and other devices that are nearby, reaching 150Mbps on the Ookla speed test, and 19MB/s for Steam downloads. However, our router struggles to reach one office at the back of the building, where the Wi-Fi signal is so unreliable that we rely on PowerLine adaptors to provide a wired connection instead.

With one Asus ZenWifi XT9 connected to our router, and the second located halfway along that corridor, we are able to get smooth, steady speeds of 150Mbps and 19Mb/s for Ookla and Steam once more - even on the slower 2.4GHz band.
